They don't know firearms. That little popgun would have become very useless in a very short while.

Wanna take on a crowd? Shotgun. Why do you think "scatter" guns and "street howitzers" were so popular in the old West?

That's my go to weapon for home defense. I'm a pretty good shot on the farm, but I don't want to have to be a great shot with adrenaline pumping. Good enough will do with the 12 gauge.

Yes, that should be your "go-to" gun for normal standard home defense against a lone (or a pair) of intruders.

But a mob?

Go with the AK/AR's.

If you shoot 5 rounds out of a shotgun and then go to reload, you might be quickly overwhelmed.

When I'm confronted by a mob, my answer to them, with a shotgun and 8 shells will be fine, you may get me, but which 12 or so of you are coming with me?

Well, to each his own.

I own a Mossberg 12 gauge too, as should everybody. But I'll use it for close encounter in-home protection. If I have to face a mob outdoors with hundreds of irrational communists intent on destroying my home (and/or myself), it'll be the AR or AK.

I agree that there's nothing better than the sound of a pump shotgun to deter people, but they also know that your capacity is far more limited, and might rush you after seeing you run out, and trying to reload, which is more of a pain that switching out an empty mag.

I'll stick with the very light recoil, 30 rounds, and an easy to swap out magazine with another 30.

You can go ahead and take Joe Biden's advice, with the shotgun. Unca Joe would be proud! :)
