Most retailers are 'self-liquidating' - Want to know why? Come inside...
Most retailers are preparing to go out of business. They are self-liquidating because cost and they know they only have a narrow "re-open" window to do it.

And...

Because the big liquidator companies are overwhelmed and can't move the product to other retailers because there are no other retailers now.

They can't even load it and ship it to dump it in Africa or South America.

So this is why.

Along this train of thought, I was wondering if many retailers are doing ordering for Christmas/Holiday shopping time (so that they will receive inventory in August-October.

It would be more telling to see what retail ordering is looking like.

Anyone know where to find this information?

That's exactly what is happening at Ross. I was in one yesterday to buy some sheets and at least half the shelves were empty. All the shelves for sheets were empty.

So I went to another Ross. Same scene. With nothing even on the shelves to sell, how can they survive even another month?

Yup. Brand new Ross in our town was nearly empty after first shutdown. Also I noticed the one year old Hobby Lobby here has ALL their seasonal shit out, from every season. I was guessing they’re also going to close down. There go some jobs... that locals didn’t have for very long. And I forgot, our JCP is going out of business too. Before these stores came all there was were thrift stores. So back to square one... thrift stores + Walmart.

I'm not finding things at Walmart. I was looking for sheets, and their selection was dismal. Someone said that they had all been bought to make masks. I don't believe that. The supply lines have been upset or severed.

The President has GOT to start antibody testing individuals - anybody wants one can have one kind of thing. I know there are probably tens of millions who have antibodies. Give them green cards to pin on their clothing and let them go back to work, allow them not to mask up, and they don't have to social distance. The country is going to go belly up. Plus, it's not fair to make people who have already had it to wear masks and social distance - that's just preposterous.

I've been wondering how much of the shortages in inventory are due to problems with the freight industry and the supply line originally plugged up due to the shutdown of China. Even problems with staffing in stores due to Covid-19.

I doubt it. Locally, Ikea didn't even order for summer items. They are supposed to have a sale on these items, but they are all out.

I find it hard to believe they would be ordering more merchandise for the holidays.

I bet it's slim pickings this year.

Reminds me of farmers destroying 1000s of tons of food because they can't sell it.

And the law prohibits them from giving it away or selling it to end consumers directly.

Relying on China too much. Remember when great sheets used to be made in the US? It was called Fieldcrest and they had awesome stuff.

Clinton let them go by the wayside when China came into the WTO.

Nobody else could compete. And now we get crappy microfiber. All the nice designs and embroidery gone.

Americans have nobody but themselves to blame. I sure as heck didn't want to see China become the only supplier in the world.

Re: Most retailers are 'self-liquidating' - Want to know why? Come inside...
I've noticed this as well. Wife needs a new car and we visited several dealerships over the weekend and none of them have any inventory. I'm talking literally NO new cars and none on the way anytime soon.

Then, I took a trip to Walmart through a small town about 10 miles from my home. I rarely go that way, but noticed almost all of the stores (local small mom/pop) were all closed down. Store names were taken off the buildings and it looked like a ghost town. Wierd I thought.

Then wife and I went to the Mall of Ga. and I noticed only about half the retailers were open and all of them were had limited inventory... everything seemed picked over. Several restaurants that were doing fine before covid were out of business.

So I'm starting to think the OP is right. The supply chain is drying up, but it's not being talked about because it would cause a panic.

What's wrong? You wonder what's wrong?

You can start with way too many people in today's America having tender feelings for lousy, corrupt liberals (or leftwingers for people who have warm feelings for the word "liberal") like Joe Biden, or at least less resentment towards people like him, versus people like Donald Trump.

Multiply that for both the political and private-sector, both the government and social, and you end up with the toxic brew America is now tasting.

All our shit comes from Chi-na.

That’s the problem. All bicycles are gone and so are the pools and if you do find them online, they are quadruple in price.

I bought a huge above ground pool in April, because we were emptying ours and a windstorm killed it. I paid under 700 for it. Looked online this weekend for sister, and the one I bought was listed on Amazon for $2880.

We have to make our own stuff.

Were i live in my town they built a massive supermarket in 2002

At that peak time there was a large section of DVDS, Videos, games for playstation etc, and also a large section for laptops and tvs.

At that boom time people used to do a months shopping on pay day, and trolleys were filled.

Not so much the case now as customers tend to just get a few things, and shop more regularly for special offers.

I have thought for a long time they would close it and move to a smaller premises, especially as this depression hits, people are just gonna get bits and shop around for bargains.

Also because it is a large store stealing was rife, and the heating and lighting as got to cost a lot.

Since the lockdown, items just look spaced out, either they haven't got the stock, or it would just take thousands upon thousands of pounds to fill it, with stuff that may not sell or as a shelf life.

That's my take on it x
