In his poem Human Pride, Marx admits that his aim is not to improve the world, reform or revolutionize it, but simply to ruin it and enjoy it being ruined:

With disdain I will throw my gauntlet full in the face of the world,
And see the collapse of this pygmy giant whose fall will not stifle my ardor.
Then will I wander godlike and victorious through the ruins of the world
And, giving my words an active force, I will feel equal to the Creator.

The President has GOT to start antibody testing individuals - anybody wants one can have one kind of thing. I know there are probably tens of millions who have antibodies. Give them green cards to pin on their clothing and let them go back to work, allow them not to mask up, and they don't have to social distance. The country is going to go belly up. Plus, it's not fair to make people who have already had it to wear masks and social distance - that's just preposterous.

Um, not to be rude, but you didn't tell us any intel or anything, I mean it's obvious they're self-liquidating stores like TJ Maxx, Ross, etc, very obvious.

I mean if you've got some specific intel as to why they are expecting a short window, etc, please fill us in.

That's why I said in a few of my posts that the best thing to do right now is to buy things, everyday things you need, toaster, microwave, pots/pans, clothes, even buy double, because I see a lot of stuff disappearing.

Yup. Brand new Ross in our town was nearly empty after first shutdown. Also I noticed the one year old Hobby Lobby here has ALL their seasonal shit out, from every season. I was guessing they’re also going to close down. There go some jobs... that locals didn’t have for very long. And I forgot, our JCP is going out of business too. Before these stores came all there was were thrift stores. So back to square one... thrift stores + Walmart.

I'm not finding things at Walmart. I was looking for sheets, and their selection was dismal. Someone said that they had all been bought to make masks. I don't believe that. The supply lines have been upset or severed.

We have a discount chain in southern New England called Ocean State Job Lots. They've had tons of empty shelves the past couple of months. I think it's that they can't get the shit from China anymore. There's some demand, certainly at those prices, but I think they just can't get stock. Hopefully non-China manufacturers will start to fill the hole but it will take time.

let me explain something to you.

trade is a fair exchange of goods. you are negotiating things you want for things they want.

it is NOT power unless you get the best of the other person in the deal. every person is always trying to get the best of the other person in the deal. that's what drive capitalism. profit.

that's the foundation of marxist theory. profit is the unpaid wages of the laborer.

but the people in power, are not interested in bartering with you or seeing who can get the best of who in an exchange.

they want absolute, raw naked power. where you give EVERYTHING and they take EVERYTHING. the ultimate power interaction and profit. 100% profit margin on everything all the time

I can explain some of this. No need to panic.
My part time job is in retail.
When we reopened just less than a month ago there was still stock in the back that needed to be put out. Upon reopening with a skeleton crew and limited hours, some of that has still not been put out. We are working with such a small staff it is hard to cover breaks at times.
Many stores still have a lot of fall/winter clothes out on vlearance. With every one closed for over two months, it could not be sold.
With Covid shipments from overseas were halted and import hubs being clised and No new merchandise coming in to the warehouses, so what was there is what we have. Many manufacturers overseas were also closed. That major disruption in the supply chain world wide has slowed or stopped new manufacturing. You also now have warehouses with limited staff and those are slowly viming back.
It is going to take tume to get these things back to normal.
I knew going into this mess it would take months to get things back to normal and restocked as these items don't appear out of thin air.
Sheets being bought for maskdy...very true. Closely woven fabric available at the big box stores when others were closed and not available, many did resort to using sheets to make masks, plus it is less expensive to use those. I havr a friend that is still making masks non stop and this is what she resorted to.
Noe, stores like Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls never have certain things on a regular basis. They purchase large quantities at a deeply discounted price. That is why if you shop at those stores you know if you see something you buy it because if you go back for it, it may not be there and it won't come back because that is what they got.
It isn't necessarily doom, it is taking time for supply chains and manufacturing u to get back up and running.

And the law prohibits them from giving it away or selling it to end consumers directly.

Along this train of thought, I was wondering if many retailers are doing ordering for Christmas/Holiday shopping time (so that they will receive inventory in August-October.

It would be more telling to see what retail ordering is looking like.

Anyone know where to find this information?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78614390

I doubt it. Locally, Ikea didn't even order for summer items. They are supposed to have a sale on these items, but they are all out.

I find it hard to believe they would be ordering more merchandise for the holidays.

I bet it's slim pickings this year.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 54469829

I've been noticing the same thing for a long time, you go into the household section at Walmart and a lot of things are gone. Any type of small furniture or useful household item like that. I have also been noticing the really odd, crappy looking items stuffed on clearance racks in every store. A lot of the clothing accessory and cosmetic industry along with salons and places like that, are driven by our social lives. We want to look nice when we're out at our job or at school or going out to clubs or church. We don't get to do much of those things anymore, so the demand is also going down.

My autistic son really wanted a new game system, and he couldn't find a single gaming console of any type at the game store. We had to go on Facebook and ask to buy one from someone. He was given a playstation by a kind person. Gaming consoles like those are made in China. It's very concerning, because people don't realize how much they need to hold on to what they have. Bartering is probably going to become a big deal in the future, if things don't loosen up soon. And also, the more rare things get and the more in demand they become, the higher the price is going to get.

Now a good deal of China is dealing with massive flooding. Starting to wonder if this is some type of weather warfare being sent in their direction.

Live in popular Chicago Suburb. The Menards i always go to continue to empty their shelves and not replace. It is obvious throughout the store. They just move things closer together. Very little inventory and gets less each week. I was thinking shipment delays. Home Goods in popular area had half of the store sold out when I was there. I asked Check out cashier about inventory. She claimed trucks three times a week and they are just selling fast. ( that is not it. Inventory looks old ). Whole Foods and local Grocery have empty shelves and vacant freezers. One store is even clearing out Seafood and combing with other freezer area to make it look
like more. Something is up and it is weird. Costco even low on stock. I have noticed for months. No one seems to comment. So weird.

I manage a higher end women's clothing store, when we closed on St. Patrick's day we were told we could only stay closed for three weeks because the distribution centers were full and there was no where for the product to go. I was one of the first wave of stores to re-open at the end of May with relatively normal inventory, I usually have around 14,000 units in store. I'm down to 7,000 units and we are being told we will not get replenishment until the end of July or August. Fall product is supposed to be coming in, but apparently they sent all of the summer product back to suppliers, at least that is what we are being told. Business has been booming since we reopened but at this rate I don't know that we will make it to August. If we are forced to close again, there definitely won't be any going back.
 Quoting: KRIMMY8684

This corroborates what I've been seeing and I'm starting to wonder if this is all an elaborate setup for a late summer/fall catastrophe - shutdown/forced masks/race pimps/market crash... and the propagandist fake media will go along with it. This will be an election of a lifetime. Hell it feels like this year has been a lifetime, lol. You know Trump has something up his sleeve. Hang on... It's gonna get crazy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66099637

I was thinking that going bankrupt now because of c o v i d is a perfect business move and the liquidation seems to be part of it. I see stuff on the shelves that are from stock a couple years ago. Shelves are mostly bare and very picked over. Talked to a stocker and was told they have clearance all the inventory and will completely restock for the new 'season' when its all gone?
Retail management background and thats BS.
So why? well aside from the financial grand slam of selling all this stuff and then going bankrupt to screw shareholders and pad the pockets of the top CEO's etc think about what happens for the election!?
I mean if the stores all go bankrupt in October late and everyone left working loses their jobs who you gonna vote for in 5 days?
I'm saying they don't have to be liquidating at all. Its a LIB political move against Trump.
Just what occurred to me this morning. Thoughts?

TPTB stopped the "re-opening" because they saw that business was using the opportunity to sell off what they can and close forever.

This process will spike unemployment even further. So they reverse the "re-open" for political reasons. On paper it still looks like there's x amount of business and workers. In reality, the economy is FLATLINED.

So any relaxing of the nazi bs is used as an opportunity to try and salvage a gain of some diminishing sort.

People aren't just going to sit around and let the commierum politicians hand intact business over to their dindoo mobs for free shit.
