I know about 50 people with it right now. I live in the southeast and it's spreading like wildfire among the college age kids. So, that part is without a doubt true. What they won't tell you however, is that if the people in their 20's that are getting it, that about half are asymptomatic, about 25% have very mild symptoms and for the other 25% it's like a milf flu. There has also been very very little spread to the parents of the kids, I guess because they are getting tested so soon and not walking around sick for several days. Yes, this is anecdotal and only in my small part of the country but from what I have direct knowledge of 1.) the virus is very real but 2.) the virus isn't going to wipe out the country and is no reason to shut down the economy.
