A big part of the problem, I keep saying, is that people have lost the ability to “entertain” differing or even opposing ideas at the same time. To ruminate, chew on ideas. To have a high tolerance for ambiguity, and to be able to simply say, “I haven’t made up my mind about that yet.” To hold ideas embraced by different “sides” without feeling the need to toe the party line 100%.

So true. The ability to agree to disagree, without reverting to aggressive, violent behavior in words or actions. Trying to find common ground is another lost art.

And how often do you see something simple like: “I see now that I was mistaken. Thanks for helping me see things more clearly.” Admitting “defeat” need not be shameful...instead people double down when they feel threatened about being “wrong,” and shift to personal attacks.

There is nothing wrong with being mistaken. It’s how we learn. Or so it seemed until recent years, not just on GLP but everywhere in the world...nobody has basic humility or flexibility anymore.

Mezzo, Recently I've been taking what I call 'mental health breaks' from GLP. Usually it's only a day at a time, because I'm drawn to the site to see what's going on in the world, but then I'm turned off by the hatred I'm seeing in the threads. I'm pretty sure you've done the same yourself...and we'd be losing something in our collective consciousness if you were to depart.

And as for fighting CAPSMAN without his glasses, how will he know which direction he should face to slug you one?

I guess all I am saying is that we are all supposed to be human, so maybe we should treat each other a bit more like that again, on here and offline, instead of copying the behavior we see around us and plunge our society into the destruction it is increasingly heading. And for the record, that does not mean accepting all the over the top, orchestrated chaos we are in at the moment..

My two way too long cents again. Take from it what you want, or not. Most likely there will be replies with “Wall of text” again. I don't mind, it is always your own choice to read it or not.

Much of what you're seeing here on GLP (the anger, attitudes etc.) is a result of the absolute massive increase in violence against white culture and American ideals. Literally on a daily basis there's a video of another black person is killing or assaulting a white grandmother, a cop or teenager. Sure, we're all supposed to be "human" as you stated, however that is clearly not reality. We're going through a true epidemic. A hostile "takeover" via Marxist ideology. I would say for the almost 3 years this demonic activity has steadily increase against the destruction of the founding principle s of this country, so what you're seeing is people here that are just fed up with it. There is virtually few (if any other places) online to vent this frustration. This country has been split right down the middle. It's fractured beyond repair. No one is changing another person's mind. The lines ave been drawn. One side seems to think that this country is innately racist, and the other understands that the only racism occurring in today's modern world is against whites, not blacks. Many people simply don't have a tolerance for anyone not accepting reality for what it is.

And to add for what it is worth, I won’t delete posts that argue with my stand in an adult and respectful manner. I will however, like I do with all my threads delete posts that include insults, name calling, racist memes and such. If you can not find it in yourself to word your opinion in a normal way, I advise you to find a thread where that is not considered a problem. There are plenty available.

And if you want to give me red karma, be my guest. You will only prove my point more with that. It would be nice to leave your name with that as well, but that might be wishful thinking..

You are just seeing the World in the climate you see here today op.... Hasn't GLP always at least somewhat mirrored what you see "out there"?

The World is going insane, why would we be immune? Mankind has done this to itself...we have driven ourselves insane with our quest for knowledge...instead all we have really achieved is madness...

The reason it hurts so much for some of us is we still care, we still hold our hope for our fellow man and in that hope, for ourselves.

Sadly, that hope is fading but having said that just make the craziness go away here at GLP won't be anything other than a band aid, a mask if you will. The evil is still with us, even if we don't see it.

The problem though is once you have seen you can't blind yourself to that truth. All any of us can do at this point is try to hold on to ourselves and those close to us...it's already a bumpy ride and it's only just begun.

Re: Midweek Mezzorant
You know, I have hesitated whether I should post this thread, because I already know the outcome of that. It most likely will be met with the same ridiculing we see on so many other threads and that is negative energy I actually don’t need.

The internet has become another Pandora's Box. Where at first it was an information channel, mostly one sided, but with the increasing speed and technology it has become a multi-way platform where people can say and do what they want and all of that under the umbrella of freedom of speech. Internet fora like GLP, Social Media, biased cable networks. They all give a voice to people, no matter what their intentions are. Including people who use those platforms to divide, violate and hurt. Not only online, but transforming that behavior from online to offline, in our real society, making things spinning more and more out of control. I also condemn the over the top happenings in society at the moment. I also believe they are orchestrated to cause more division. So that is not even the point of my Mezzorant.

As a long time member, I must admit that I am getting increasingly fed up with the negative one sided atmosphere that breathes on GLP as well. The number of racist, degrading threads, insulting posts and racist memes of some member posters, is off the charts. Yet some apparently have a status that they can not be touched. And why? Must be all for the sake of traffic I guess.

Counter posts to at least attempt to start an adult discussion are met with the same ridiculous, hate filled reactions, either in words or memes. Even threatened. Or simply deleted and banned. And these original posters who report those counter opinions, get even rewarded with green karma in doing so. So in fact they are doing exactly the same they accuse the fake media off. One sided reporting, sometimes even fabricated to get their point across. So where’s the difference then with CNN, FOX or whatever media outlet you name on either side of the political spectrum?

And it is that kind of behavior, not only on here, but everywhere on the net and no matter which political side we choose, that spills over to our real society. Like with the true Pandora's Box, the lid on this box can never be closed again, unless it comes to a total reset. So maybe we do need a virus, man made or not (call it fake, whatever you want), maybe we do need Mother Nature to step in, or God. To show us all how far we have drifted from our core, how our society is increasingly spinning out of control. But as always when things like that happen, people who are genuine and good are often hit the hardest as well.

I am seriously considering to leave GLP for all the reasons mentioned. I sometimes feel ashamed to be part of a community that has so much hate against another human being in it. I can not identify myself anymore with that. It has grown from a conspiracy platform and a forum that had news first to a site where it is okay to degrade those with a different (political) opinion, color, belief or life style.

The reason I am still here is because I won't let the haters win. Because I know there are threads like the EQ thread and the Jukebox that have genuine good people on them. Where we made friends for life and can say what is on our minds without being slaughtered or ridiculed by other posters, no matter which side of the political spectrum we find ourselves, no matter what color we have, blue, green, black or white and no matter what lifestyle or religion we may have. Like I have never chosen or rejected friendships in real life for those same reasons.

The reason that I am still here and even contribute financially by paying for memberships of friends, is that I know from the Christmas Giveaway Thread and even in the past months, till even today, how many people struggle to keep their head above water. My friends and me have helped many in December, and I have done that even till today, even though I myself am without a job and struggling as well. To me that is core and I simply refuse to believe that the majority of the people who post aggressive and divisive stands online, are the same in real life. Call me naive in that, so be it. I know better, from experience.

I guess all I am saying is that we are all supposed to be human, so maybe we should treat each other a bit more like that again, on here and offline, instead of copying the behavior we see around us and plunge our society into the destruction it is increasingly heading.

And along with what you said, people have also become so extreme in their thinking, about everything, it seems. Like Mezzo said, people will get into heated battles about the stupidest, most inconsequential things. Extreme black and white thinking doesn't fit into a grey world, and we are now seeing the repercussions of trying to force that. In addition, people in general have become increasingly narcissistic, which also impacts one's flexibility and being able to entertain other points of view, as you noted.

Honestly, I feel at times we're screwed. It seems like people are so far gone, so lacking in basic regard and respect, so polarized in their thinking, so determined to be "right" and call others out as "wrong", that I question how we get past this as a society.

I agree with your basic premise of staying positive - it's not just for those around you but essential to maintaining your own center molded by reality. It's for our own survival. I don't know how true this is for others but I often find my best qualities during the worst moments when everything is going mad. it's as if my soul dropped an anchor and said "you will be fine - don't surrender to the waves of emotion around you". It's when i have my best moments of clarity and purpose.
I really do hope it's the same for others because if that is the case what is happening today becomes a necessary shake up, a required emotional purge for us to move forward together as a society.

A big reason I come to glp is to vent my worst impulses. Better to talk them out and be able to read your own feelings back later when you can see them for what they are. They cannot stay bottled up!

Re: Midweek Mezzorant
I just went looking for you, to see if you'd posted recently, and see your thread just now.

My heart aches when I read it. But I strongly encourage you dear Mezzo to focus on all the good friends/people who are here. Not the mean and crappy bullshit. Because that's all it is.

And they win if you're not here.

this is what I came here to say too.
I stayed away for nearly 7 years because of the negative energy, but I have found some good people here that remind me of why I found here in the first place.
You are one of those Sloane, Mezzo is another and I think we can agree on many others.
For all the bad, I have also found sanctuary and even salvation here when I most needed it.
I am old, and raised my children as a single mom. Every single thing I did, I considered the example it was setting for them - was I treating others kindly? Was I being honest? Was I modeling strength? I never spanked. I never grounded. I honestly never needed to.
Treating others as people and doing our best to see past the societal conditioning that leads us to judge goes a long way in reaching understanding. Sure, there is mental illness, there is real anger (much of it justified), and there are people who are bad and really just want to hurt others. Hurt people hurt people. We are all really just muddling along in this life and it pays to treat each other with kindness.
"Violence simply is not radical enough, since it generally changes only the rulers but not the rules. What use is a revolution that fails to address the fundamental problem: the existence of domination in all its forms, and the myth of redemptive violence that perpetuates it?" - Walter Wink

Re: Midweek Mezzorant
It has changed a lot around here in the 11 or so yrs I've been reading threads here. A lot is toxic, or at least cringe-worthy, but I just ignore most of the reap crap.

The rest is kind alike turning over rocks in the streambed - kinda slimy and nasty under each rock, but it's worth it when you find a crawfish.

Take the crawfish and dine well upon them, leave the rest to rot in peace...
'bout time to hoist that ole black flag...
