You'd best practice reading your books by the campfire. Soon there will be no electricity to illuminate your reading lamps.

Get yourself a copy of Carla Emery - Encyclopedia Of Country Living.

Most useful book I own!!!

You don't read it like a book...you look something up when you need the information.

How to skin a rabbit? It's in there.
How to deliver a baby? It's in there.
The best way to grow corn? It's in there.

lol While those wouldn't be my first choice of things to read, preservation of history is important, whether we find it pleasant or not.

bump
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear."

I read that in ancient times, scribes at the library at Alexandria in Egypt would force all incoming vessels to hand over their books to be copied exactly, after which the copy would be returned to them. If ever modern civilization falls apart, something like this on a local, less centralised scale could be immensely useful for reestablishing a knowledge base for society. Just don't keep it all in one place for some jerk to come along and burn it. tounge

No, sorry. If you search for "programming tutorial", you can teach yourself programming, but it takes a while to learn and get good at it. For simplicity with archiving, I'd suggest using a high level language which abstracts away some of the underlying networking and media functions, such as Java or PHP. Otherwise, if you want more general purpose programming skills at the same time, try C++ or some form of BASIC.

If the ill-mannered Zerg swarm is not made to cease their antisocial behavior, then statue toppling will not satiate them. Book burning has happened far too often when demonic forces were at work.

If I may make a suggestion, the following categories are of critical importance to the future:

STEM textbooks of all kinds (science, technology, engineering, & mathematics)
Homeschooling material for all levels of education
History books not tainted by leftism
The Constitution
The Declaration of Independence
Classical scientific books and papers by well-known European and American scientists

Feel free to add to this list. It's best to have both physical paper copies and digital copies if possible.

Important to keep actual books and not just digital.

I have a large library of history and philosophy and need to buy more.

These books will soon disappear as they get expunged from libraries and as bookstores disappear. We all know Amazon cannot be trusted.

I have a shit load of college Chemistry, Medical, and Biology books. I have a ton of other stuff but thought those would be a good idea.

What do you think of running a Raspberry Pi with a screen and solar charger? You can read those digital books on it.

Indeed, physical books are intensely important. A new dark agree is exactly what I aim to prevent, but it will take all of us doing what we can.

Once upon a time, I frequented an amazing university library with an immense collection covering many floors, but I dread to think how it might have changed since then.

If gasoline becomes unavailable or prohibitively expensive, you can power a car or other internal combustion engine using a wood gas generator. Many years ago, FEMA published plans for a homemade unit. It's said that the design is not optimal, but it should work with readily available equipment.

[link to www.build-a-gasifier.com (secure)]

Similar designs were used during World War 2 in some parts of the world.
