I would but I'm a gamer so I have to use windows best option right now.

I dont understand why not a single graphic card has not been invented with its own drivers for the gaming community, if there where such a graphic card half of window users would abandon window forever

Learn how PCs work by buying an old junk PC, put Linux on it and slowly upgrade the hardware.

Don't fuck with your working Windows PC.

Then install, break, reinstall software as much as you want.

Slowly migrate over time to ONLY using Linux.

You will learn a lot.

It's been awhile, but once so many people were routinely gettin new pcs that I would clean 'em up and give 'em to poor people and they worked just fine.

You don't need the newest pcs unless you got money to waste and probably are an obsessed gamer.

IF there were decent wargames now, I might buy one,but it's a big waste of money at a time of extreme uncertainty. That demonstrates a lack of common sense wasting money when literally might happen to tank the economy.

No doubt! Ebay and Craigslist. Or just local yard sales.

You are only talking about a hundred bucks or so.

Ebay shipping has gotten expensive though, so BE CAREFUL OF SHIIPING COSTS.

There were some really great local PC donation stores around in many metro areas until the "plague" hit. I loved them!

Those have all been closed.

Honestly, for old PCs, those in the best conditions are from families getting rid of PCs when they buy new, so Craigslist is my top choice.

Did you know that even Walmart online sells used PCs?

Cheap prices. Benefit is cheaper shipping prices and you can return it to any store.

Bought an i7 laptop at a pawn shop for $150.

Low-level formatted Windows 8 the fuck off of it.

Installed the latest Linux Mint on it.

Its ran solid since day 1. Best money I ever spent.

I have an old mac pro that I keep around and it's 9 years old and still kills it.

8 core 2.33 ghz 32 gb of ram... you can pick one up for like 400 bucks last I checked.

Shit of it is, you can't update the OSX past Mavericks.
 Quoting: BFD

I just took one of those to the dump. A 2007 model, 8 cores. Ya, it's nice hardware (those drive bays are sex), but the thing generates soooooo much damn heat. Between the old CPU's and the ECC buffered memory, they got way too much pouring out.

If it used a standard ATX layout I would have saved the case, but even that requires a lot of work to make an ATX case work....and you loose all the nice layout inside.

Personally, I like Linux Mint because it is free, simple layout, rock solid, no anti-virus needed, Libre Office included and works on old PCs.

That's everything that I need it for.

I like my PC OS simple and uncluttered. No updates that break things. No pay-to-use bullshit!

My 10 year old PC is VERY fast with Linux. Perfect.

What security are you worried about? Windows spying?

Yet you run similar browsers and they still see your IP Address. Just what do you think you are hiding? Not sure Windows is the biggest threat on the internet.

You sound like a MAC person.
Or maybe a windiows person.

Not a programmer person.

All the decent programmers that I know that have a choice(that are not programming windows) run linux as their main box due to confugurability.

If you can't set up your uwn linux box there are plenty of helpful people that would be glad to sort out your mess.
