There is something satisfying to me saving an old PC from the scrap heap. My old Huffy bicycle is the same idea. It just works. I bought it for $14 dollars. My old 2004 Buick LeSabre that I bought for $875 dollars 4 years ago is the same idea. Not because I have to, but because I like to. I just LOVE this kind of attitude! |

And more importantly, who profits from it! Ok, you don't get viruses or hacked, yet... but, the real issue is who has access to your PC? All day, everyday. It costs money to continue to fix and update windows And I don't really care if they use my clicks to profit. |

Buy an old Dell PC for about $100 dollars or less and install Linux on it for web browsing. I had a cool Dell touch screen, but not enough memory or ram to run Windows updates, so we tried to load Linux on it, and it's pretty much a flop. Quoting: Keilani First I tried a version that I downloaded onto a memory stick, followed all the directions and it didn't work. Then my brother tried a version and got it to work, but it's pretty much useless as it's slower than before almost, just junk. I really like Linux and have used it on old desktops before with fabulous results, so not sure what's going on with the Dell laptop here. You can get a Raspberry Pi with cooling case for $76. It has a dual display, 4gb memory (don't get the two gig one), and the hard drive is the same type of mini memory card that fits in your smart phone. You can get as big a card as you want and put raspian on it for free. It's got 2 usb 2.0 ports and 2 3.0 usb ports, and the graphics card gives you 4k dual display and it can handle anything. Raspbian acts like linux mint. Both of the OS are very intuitively designed for windows users. You won't be able to play most streaming services on it because they work with windows or mac only. but you can get a roku for 35 bucks if ya got to have that. All else works perfect, including you tube. the whole system fits in the palm of you hand. |

Buy an old Dell PC for about $100 dollars or less and install Linux on it for web browsing. Sorry, but that is stupid. For that price you can buy a whole used tower PC complete with hard drives, power supply, DVD, RAM, video card and it is easily expandable later. And most importantly, you save a good PC from the scrap heap in India or China. Use what already exists! |

In Private Mode, true nothing is stored on your PC, but every click is stored by your search engine(Google), your ISP(Cable Company), Microsoft(Windows), web page you are on(GLP). Unless you use other tools to stop it. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76803514 Why spend thousands of dollars on a PC, OS, applications and virus protection? I suggest learning to use Linux Mint instead of Windows.
