This is the black hole of psychology and psychiatry. We falsely believe that people who are not psychotic and who can "function" in daily life" are mentally sound, mentally well and stable operating with both feet in objective reality.

When, in fact, depending on the source, 10-20% of our population lack the full traits of humanity.

Mental illness crisis, the underlying cause. That's where we should start if we are to ever be on a path to having any f-ing peace on this earth.

Better yet why write to people who never read anything?

Well, no, sound research shows it's the opposite. People with these disorders, especially borderline and narcissistic personality disorder feel an internal void. In my opinion and others, the void is not having a stable identity, a sense of self and an inability to experience a full range of emotions. They turn to drugs and alcohol to self medicate and alter the experience, especially those with BPD.

There are many studies on this topic.

It's also one of the reasons AA is so successful because a member must "do their work", which really amounts to reparenting and learning to take control or your life, be accountable, internal rather than external etc.

From my cheap seat, though, there are many with BPD and some comorbid diagnosis with NPD that would benefit from some low dose antipsychotics to shift the neurochemistry to eliminate or improve the "functional" delusion symptoms. BPD is a cognitive processing disorder first then an emotional regulation disorder. Help balance the neuro chemistry as we do with diabetics and insulin, and many won't need to turn to drugs and alcohol, and people with BPD will also show emotional regulation improvement.

But, they function in daily life AND they are blind to their blindness. Unless laws have been broken AND unless the attorneys and judge are educated, you cannot force a person who is not a danger to himself or others to get treatment.

And, there's the rub. Everyone around them must pay and suffer from their mental disorders. MY liberty can be violated but not theirs.

I hesitate bringing this up because I don't have the study currently accessible to me and I don't even remember who ran it, but there was a study on AA participants that found over 60% of the subject members met the diagnostic criteria for at least one Cluster B personality disorder.
