So I am REALLY confused!?!

My cousin sent her 3-month-old to daycare for the first time yesterday. Within hours, she got a call that one of their workers tested positive, the daycare was closed, and she and her husband would have to quarantine for ten days.

School is going to be a disaster.

Everyone is torn between living and hiding...you can't hide from a virus. Precautions are great, cleaning and disinfecting, but destroying our lives over this thing is stupid...

There is nothing about ANY of this that makes sense. I was at the summer pool the other day, and watching the staff wipe down the handrails going down the stairs into the pool...... wait, what? doesn't chlorine kill those germs? I understand waterborne stomach viruses aren't killed, nor feces germs..... but this coronavirus would certainly be. Just so stupid.

Also, was listening to someone talking about the lines to get on a plane, masks mandated, social distancing mandated, but then get on the plane and sit 6 inches from the next person over..... Masks off while you snack and drink. Makes NO sense.

Yup, every one of those kids and teachers are going to have contracted COVID within the first couple of weeks. They are going to bring it home to their parents and grandparents, who will then take it to work and church. It's not going to be pretty.

We can't have it both ways. Either we stay sheltered indefinitely, or we all just say the heck with it and live our lives. This part free and part sheltered shit doesn't work.

So masks, hand washing, social distancing -- doesn't work.

Yes. People are saying that kids aren't very susceptible, but they aren't thinking about the teachers. There aren't enough subs to take over when all the teachers become sick. And, as you say, if one person (kid or teacher) gets it everyone has to shelter for days/weeks.

Sure it does. Schools are well-organized and administered. Gyms and bars are full of selfish idiots who don't give a f@#%.

Not in a school setting. Kids are gross little creatures. They will be sucking on their masks, blowing through their masks, twirling their masks, taking their masks off to eat in class, sharing their food, trading masks, pulling them down to talk or work... And I'm just talking high school! LOL!

Not to mention the fact that there is no way to social distance a 20 x 20 classroom with 25-30 kids and 1-2 teachers.

They switch off classes every 1 1/2 hours (block schedule). Then they crowd into the halls by the hundreds. Then a new class of 25-30 kids fills the same seats as the ones who just left. Then another group and another group. So in essence thousands of kids have close contact either with each other or with items others used each day.

Lunch? OK, so no lunchroom - just eat in the class. 30 kids in that 20 x 20 room laughing and breathing on each other, dripping on the desks which might or might not get cleaned effectively (still no Clorox wipes).

So currently in Florida bars and gyms are closing, and same day the state is ordering all public schools must open with in person learning in August, 1 month from now.
