I was a dialysis tech for 8 years. She must restrict her fluid intake. Watch out for eating bananas and tomatoes pea nuts beans and potatoes. She can't pee the fluid stays inside. Your kidneys regulate your electrolytes. So u eat to much potassium your heart can blow up. And to much phosphorus foods is not good. Makes bones brittle. Don't drink Gatorade type drinks. These are just general things. Unless the dietician tells her otherwise. Sometimes they can be allowed to indulge in afew things if their levels aren't too high. And her red blood cell count could be low . Kidneys make red blood cells. But she will get epo for that. Sucks to be hot and u want to chug water but it can basically drown her. But im sure your Dr will teach u this. But don't be a non compliant patient. The sick ones were the ones who ate and drank whatever they wanted. I've known some who had been on dialysis for many years. A fistula is good. Its a vein connected to an artery. Its her own body. It's better than a catheter. Catheter is prone to infection. Just make sure they don't put the needles in the same spot if they are the sharp needles it prolongs the life of the fistula. Move them around every treatment.But they do have a something called butten hole. Its a dull needle that goes in the same spot. But over time patients like to use the same spots cause it might not hurt cause u develop scar tissue and it might deaden the pain from needles. Then just keep eye on her once she gets home . Just make sure she don't bleed . Cause u can bleed quick from a fistula. But thats rare. Thats all I got . Its 1 am thats all I can say about it. Bring a book to read during treatment. It's kinda boring sitting in a chair 3 to 4 hours. Only real issue is low bp if u pull to much fluid during treatment.but its no big deal give her 100cc or 200cc of saline back. Maybe some cramping during or after treatment. But that's normal.. Unless its excessive then they'll just raise her edw or estimated dry weight.. put your feet up and head back.
