Don’t go for the dieting mentality.

Make it a lifestyle change.

That way, your goal becomes “to be consistent” rather than have to lose a certain amount of pounds.

So when you take it off, you’re more likely to keep it off.

I’ve had a decent turn around health wise this decade and one of the methods that really helped was to keep the “consistency” simple and easily achievable while also adding or adjusting new methods that promote better health, as I became more consistent.

For instance, when I decided to change my lifestyle towards better overall health, it began with just doing a brisk (4mph) walk every morning for 30 minutes.

The following month I would then do stretching or yoga in the late afternoon when my body was most hydrated and limber. I actually grew an inch in height doing this.

And I would keep making adjustments or adding something new each month, like adding a weight jacket when going for my walks, taking a sauna in the afternoon, or researching a dietary food item or supplement that might be beneficial for me and adding it to my permanent diet. The monthly changes keep you engaged and interested in your lifestyle change.

What you keep in the house makes a huge difference. Don't buy chips, ice cream, etc. Plan your next meal in your mind way before you start to get hungry.

Mid morning and mid afternoon snack keeps the metabolic fire burning. Handful of almonds and half an apple; half an avocado and grain free crackers.

Find acceptable substitutes for your cravings. I used rice pudding as a substitute for ice cream, to which I am still quite addicted. A bowl of cold cereal also seems to be something that replaces that ice cream desire. Figure out ahead of time what you can use as a healthy replacement for each of your cravings.

Eat GOOD fats, and plenty of them, that's the key to having the weight come off fast. Nuts, avocados, sunflower seeds, olive oil, salmon, and only cook (fry) in avocado oil which tolerates high heat better than olive oil.

My nutritionist took me off dairy products except I could have a little bit of goat cheese. She had me eat a HANDFUL of almonds and pecans for my mid morning snack.

Stay away from sugar. Replace with fruit.

Add a few healthy foods, subtract the worst offenders. I do much better if I plan my daily menu when I'm not hungry. I have a large salad for lunch with avocado, pecans, a steamed vegetable, and a small serving of fish like cod or salmon. Eat more plants, less processed. Don't get hungry, that's why the healthy snacks are important.

My wife started Optavia a meal replacement plan 10 weeks ago and is averaging -10 per month. She is down 25#, it's kind of expensive but not bad. Her plan is 400.00 per month, her cousin lost 100# in a year on the plan. It will work if adhered to.
