No, there are differences and degrees in the law. And assault isn’t the actual hitting someone.

The crime is actually battery. The assault is the leadup.
It can be a felony depending on who, how, damage, and intent.
Battery on a pregnant woman, public servant, minor, etc.
Battery committed in presence of a law enforcement officer is supposed to equal insta-arrest.

This includes throwing things, bodily fluids, spitting, and can be a felony if the offender is knowingly infected with a contagious disease. All of Antifa should be doing felony time for the acts committed in front of (and to) cops.
