I think we can conclude the “time out” generation didn’t produce as good of citizens as the “ass beating” generation. | |

Generally, I just got a good talking to, but at least one (and only one) memorable ass beating. Not sure if it fucked me up or improved me, but I never needed another one apparently. Can't argue with success, I suppose. |

Maybe it's not the time outs but all that false cocaine called Ritalin. Lots of kids just act totally disfunctional and are angry all the time. But, I agree on the whipping part. My parents had to raise us 3 wild and headstrong girls. Dad rarely doled out the punishment but mom was a ninja with dad's belt. We were taught fundamental politeness, respect for teachers, cops and elders. We all grew into nice people. Seriously, when I meet parents now, I almost always feel they are flawed and to blame for raising these ruthless and rude kids now. |

Gonna have to go with yeah on that one. But the real problem is parents not doing what they threaten. I know I caved. Little fuckers Quoting: Bodiless Fortunately, all 5 of mine are grown and done with college, or have a great career. They know right from wrong, for the most part Still I pity them. I didn’t relish the idea of what world my kids grew up in, and I sure as hell wouldn’t want to be a kid now. I’ve done pretty good for myself, and mom and dad whipped my ass off several times. I was all boy and into everything I survived. No way I would have with the mouth and general lack of respect for authority we see today. My grandpa would have split my skull. Different time I guess. I learned to pay attention and keep my mouth shut Right quick Look at the way authority mistreats and abuses their employees and the public. Anything there worth respecting? Be the change you wish to see. |

Time outs are worthless. We used chores or pushups. Only once did I use corporal punishment. It just wasn't needed as the kids were exceptionally well mannered as we were very very very strict. And their friends came over all the time and behaved when at our home. They always went to church too and did ministry. Nobody wanted to stay home or play hooky by being sick. |
