Yeah, the kid hit the ground, but the guy tried his best instead of standing around filming the fire.
Every establishment in town should give him a gift card.

There were two children. Mother did not make it. She saved the last child taking on the flames.

Catching a kid is nice and all. Most decent adults would try to do the same.

But the MOTHER is the hero.

The news ignored her self sacrifice and instead politicized this as a heroic black male

dude is a retired Marine a hole! And, I just watched an interview of him where he says "I am not a hero, the mother was."

Great for him.

My post was referring to the news media ...and even this thread...bowing down to the “hero” and ignoring the self- sacrificing mother

Apparently the mother was in flames.

Bravery all around!!!!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73801732

Yes she was in flames when she dropped her son. And she went back in but didn’t make it to her daughter. A neighbor kicked in the door and got her daughter. The son had some surgeries and is doing well but the little girl needs about nine. Sounds like she was badly burned. They have raised almost 100k for them. That is one tough mom to be able to do what she did.

This is amazing.

WATCH: When a 3-year-old boy was dropped from the third story of a burning building in Arizona, a former football player dove to catch him. That man was Phillip Blanks, a retired U.S. Marine, who saved the boy just before he hit the ground.

LOL he didn't catch him. You can clearly see the kid hit the ground. He probably did soften the impact and is a solid man for rushing to help.

Exactly!

The guy tried, but he didn't catch the kid. He broke his fall at a very minute second.

Looks like he missed him to me but carried him away.

Good try though. Catching 45 pounds or so being dropped is tough.
 Quoting: The Gullible Skeptic

The child was spinning and he caught his upper body and head perfectly in his elbow, softly just like in football! He saved the kid without a doubt.
