I Misgendered A Woman Today & Some Chaos Ensued

I made a trip to a local dept. store. Someone was standing with their back turned to me in one of the aisles, blocking my passage.

The person was wearing a baseball cap with men's style jeans and t-shirt. Also had a buzz cut.

I didn't think much about it and said, "Excuse me, sir."

Around turns a woman, wide-eyed, and says, "The last time someone called me that, I knocked them out."

So I apologized and noted that I didn't look very carefully at her, just saw the short hair and baseball cap. She yelled, "NEXT TIME JUST SAY 'EXCUSE ME' THEN!"

Fair point I guess. Some woman witnessed the whole thing and was laughing hysterically. I said, "Well, it was an honest mistake, I'm sorry."

She made a face like the grinch when he's angry and left the store in a huff.

Be careful out there.
