A decorated Green Beret described as the real 'Captain America' by his friends died by suicide in front of his wife on Monday.

Master Sgt. Andrew Christian Marckesano, 34, served six full tours in Afghanistan and a half dozen more combat tours overseas before recently moving to Washington D.C. to started a coveted new job at the Pentagon, Fox News reports.

He returned home to Alexandria, Virginia, on July 6 after having dinner with his former battalion leader and took his own life.

Marckesano had three young children.

"Marckesano's suicide was the 30th from the 2-508 battalion, which had the highest casualty rates of any unit during the Afghanistan war.

His friends told Fox that the soldier has never recovered from his tour with them in Afghanistan's Arghandab Valley in 2009.

At the time the region was considered the most dangerous on earth, with the Taliban everywhere.

Collum said that there deemed to improvised bombs everywhere as they tied to make their way through the deadly orchards in the valley.

'When you first get there, you're there to take on the world,' he said. 'Six months in, you're just ready for it to be over, one way or another.'"

I used to know a guy that loved fighting in these wars of ours. He went to Iraq, Afghanistan and some other places to join in the fight. He was restless when he was home on leave.


I asked him, why do you keep doing it, and he said I love to kill people. When he was discharged, he committed suicide a few months latet.

He could not handle living a normal peaceful life.

Maybe it was just a convenient story to tell you rather than the truth.
