And so is Trump. 'We Build The Wall' is a Bannon project, designed to make Trump look weak by not acting so private 'supporters' crowdfund it instead. Bannon tries to get all the pro-Trump MAGA people hooked into it like it's some patriotic duty, and the ulterior motive is to make Trump look weak.

North Dakota wall builder who pitched to Trump on Fox News wins $400-million contract

"Two administration officials familiar with the matter told the Associated Press this year that Trump aggressively pushed the Fisher firm’s bid with the heads of Homeland Security and the Army Corps of Engineers, which manages wall contracts. The interference in federal contracting by a president concerned some overseeing the process but, the officials said, Trump insisted Fisher could get the wall up faster and cheaper than other bidders.

In his own appearance on Fox’s Sean Hannity show in April, Trump confirmed he was looking closely at Fisher’s company after it was recommended to him by North Dakota’s Republican Sen. Kevin Cramer.

Cramer, who received a $10,000 campaign donation from Fisher and invited him to Trump’s State of the Union address last year, said Tuesday that his constituent’s frequent appearances on conservative TV and radio may not have helped him with the Army Corps but they “certainly helped him with the president.”

Fisher’s North Dakota-based firm was awarded a $400-million contract this week to build 31 miles of wall in Arizona after he made numerous appearances on Fox, repeating a Trumpian boast that he could build the wall faster, better and cheaper than anyone else. It didn’t seem to matter that Fisher’s firm had little experience with such construction, a checkered environmental record and a previous proposal rejected.

I am shocked that this got pined because that was a disabled veteran that raised the money to build that wall and Trump is attacking him!

President Trump claimed Sunday that a section of fencing built by a private company along a wildlife refuge near the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona was "only done to make me look bad."

In a tweet, the president claimed that he had never supported efforts by a private contractor to build a section of border fencing along the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge despite Washington Post reports indicating that Trump himself had pushed for the company to win approval for funding from the Defense Department.

"I disagreed with doing this very small (tiny) section of wall, in a tricky area, by a private group which raised money by ads. It was only done to make me look bad, and perhsps it now doesn’t even work. Should have been built like rest of Wall, 500 plus miles," he tweeted.

His tweet comes despite reporting that Trump became a fan of Fisher Sand and Gravel, the company behind the 31-mile stretch of fencing near Tucson, Ariz., after seeing the company's CEO during media appearances on Fox News and Fox Business. In those appearances, CEO Tommy Fisher appealed to Trump and promised quick construction of border fencing.

The president even went as far as to inquire about the company's bid for funding from the Army Corps of Engineers, the Post reported last year.

Now completed, the project is under federal review, as government attorneys have alleged that sections of the fencing are endangered by erosion. A spokesperson for the company said that the reported erosion was “a normal part of new construction projects like this and does not in any way compromise the fence or associated roadway.”
