Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72430464 I noticed alot of the summer stuff is gone and the remaining stock is on clearance! Then I noticed fall stuff getting put out in its place! It’s almost like some kind of seasonal cycle! They used to do that with clothes when I lived in Houston. Around this time of year, when it is blazing hot with like 4 more months of such weather, they would quit selling summer clothes and would bring out the winter clothes, which can only be used for a few weeks in the winter if that. They hired two more full time kids and she said they can't keep up. A girl at Target said the same, they just don't have enough employees working. People are not eating out the way they used to. I tries a very upscale place today, a 28 dollar lobster roll. I had to send it back and the manager comped me, it was so fucking terrible. I swear it was fake crab. The food I've been served since reopening is dogshit, not acceptable. I haven't had a decent meal other than plain steak and onions in a pan in 4 months. User ID: 76604177 United States 07/13/2020 05:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So most of the goods we see in Walmart, TJ maxx, Ross, Target, Tuesday Morning come from China. Heck, most everything we buy comes from China, so pick a store. It's filled with products they get from someone who Wholesales and sells them for a profit to every store you walk into. I worked for a wholesale Company for years so here's the deal. Everything we were seeing in Spring- ( summer stuff, bikes, clothes, etc) was ordered/purchased by all companies at the beginning of Sept to the end of November. This is an early Spring/mid Spring arrival. China probably had some products made for this season and made some goods before the shutdown, and it was just enough to fulfill the orders for Spring. Any good wholesaler is always ahead of the game, and China is the world's wholesaler. Unfortunately, nothing was made in Feb, Mar, April. This is the end of Summer- Fall/Winter items-- and just general stock- appliances, bikes, plastics, pots and pans, you get the idea. Nearly 80 percent of dry goods come from China. India has also been impacted, so there's another 10 percent. They started making stuff again in April, but Chinese factories are notoriously slow, and if rushed quality suffers. A decent factory will push out product in about 3 months time. The buyer can either put it on a container and ship it, ( 45 days on water during normal times) and then it will need to be trucked- another 15 or so days. Or they can air freight which is costly but has a two week turn around. Most companies will not air freight large amounts of stock, because it eats away at their profit. This is why we are seeing shortages now. I am not sure if China has cut us off, they may have. It's more likely that they are way behind, and they are very slow, and everyone wants something. In other words, they have more orders/product that needs to be made/shipped than ever before. It's likely a daunting task, and we are getting close to the Fall, and another wave. I fear that we may not have goods for a very long time. Buy clothing, shoes, and anything you may need for the next year. It's going to get rocky. Especially when people begin to realize things are not returning for a while. God help us all when the masses realize this. |

In addition to the usual shortages, I can’t get the outdoor furniture I want (first world problems!) and I’ve noticed a shortage in certain clothing items. So, I’m thinking ahead. What would I want three to four months from now? What will I want come fall? I bought three pairs of shoes. Just the same types of shoes I normally buy, but sooner than I had planned on buying them. I wish I could shop for clothes, but online shopping bites. I think I’m pretty well stocked in most things. IDGAF |

We have recovered relatively nicely from the Feb/March/April run. The only iffy parts are: canning supplies (sells as fast as we get in), same with food saver supplies. Corporate tells us to set new mods in bed sheets, but then doesn't send all the products (half empty for about 2-3 weeks now). Little things here and there are slow to come in, and limited quantity, but otherwise, we are doing alright. I work in a small Walmart and have lots of people from other cities/towns come in (can tell cause they are asking where basic things are, some say outright they never been to this one before). Under my breath (behind the mask), I say: thanks for taking resources away from our small county ... go to your local Walmart FFS!. Geez. |

The shelves are getting empty with no restock.... in the non-food sections. Then go online and try to order ...the same...."out of stock". Quoting: Yellow Bird in TX I guess China has cut off the US from everything. an example...and it is across the board in pretty much every store that would sell the product. My friend wants a convection over. Try finding one in my area now...there are none. I find it hard to believe that people are buying up all this stuff. My friend says she heard that the products are being removed and sent to other countries. We live in very strange and confusing times. Everything we were used to has now gone buy-bye. Good...bring manufacturing back to the states. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 18972958 United States 07/13/2020 07:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Do you even feel confident buying anything Made in China anymore? Quoting: mji71 If you think quality assurance was bad before the Tariffs and COVID-19, how much more so nowadays. There is most definitely a Cold War ongoing. I would have no confidence buying anything Made in China. I would especially have ZERO confidence in any mask made in China. That could prove to be life threatening. Time for Walmart to change suppliers especially to Made in USA. I'm not a regular Walmart shopper. I won't get in to the reasons why. I also have been avoiding nearly EVERYTHING made in China for well over 20 years. I don't accept people's lame excuses that "I can't find things not made in China" because I've done it for a long time. You only have to buy crappy stuff if you want to buy crappy stuff. But the other day I went in to a Walmart (I mentioned upthread that it was pretty much fully stocked, and all the grocery stores I've been to over the past couple months have always been fully stocked). I bought a few supplies, and NONE of it was made in China. I bought a few odd pieces of Corelle dishes, because, well, they actually DO break. They're still made in the USA. I bought some Pyrex baking dishes that are also made in the USA. I bought some disinfecting wipes, they were made in the USA. I bought a Lodge grill pan (since I didn't have a square one). Picked up some fruit pies that we actually surprisingly good for store-bought pies. They weren't frozen. I got peach, blueberry and sweet potato. All were from the US except the peach was strangely made in Canada. So, I don't believe it's necessarily Walmart's fault for pushing cheap made-in-China junk, it's you consumers who want the cheapest crappiest stuff and you're buying it, so Walmart's just giving it to you. A savvy shopper can buy things at Walmart and avoid China. p.s. I bought this stuff because we were having a bunch of people over from shut-down areas so we could barbecue and watch the fireworks on Independence Day. . |

I guess it has a lot to do with where you live and what kind of people live around you. I was surprised at the Walmart I went to the other day, my wife and I were shocked that there was good stuff for sale and the prices were reasonable. It was clean and there were people stocking and cleaning in the middle of the day. If you live in a crappy area, then all the retail is going to reflect that. Sort of like some Macy's are nice, and then others look like hell. Or even Dillard's. I was kind of surprised to go into a nice Dillard's a few weeks ago. I had written them off from other ones I've gone to. |

User ID: 76604177 United States 07/13/2020 07:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As for the varying amounts of stock between cities and regions, I reckon that places the controllers wish to keep well-fed and happy are getting priority for restock; whereas the places they want to wither on the vine are lucky to get anything. In any case, it's a game of musical chairs for the last remaining----- I think what's being done, is areas with more income- and stores that sell more product are getting fully stocked. That's why stores in DFW and surrounding areas have food. People there have more money to spend. In Louisiana ( Baton Rouge) our Walmart has been thinly stocked since before COVID, it's far worse now. We did not have bread for a good month and a half. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77858011 United States 07/13/2020 07:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in a tourist area in northern Wisconsin that has just been overwhelmed this summer with people escaping lock-downs. All our stores are low on everything, but are restocked regularly so it is impossible to tell if it is shortages, or just supply and demand. Quoting: Bud Fox What is interesting is when they are restocking, some items seem to be available and some not. For example, last week I was looking for a Home Run Inn frozen sausage pizza. The freezer had just been restocked, and all they had in there was 6 slots full of pepperoni. No sausage, deluxe, cheese, nothing but a cooler full of pepperoni. Same thing in Tombstone as well. I found this interesting so I started paying attention to this as I walked around the store, and found this in a number of different areas. For example, in multiple styles of shoes they would have 15 pairs of shoes in some odd size like 13, and none in the other sizes. Also, I was looking for a few plastic containers and found very few in the aisle where they were supposed to be. However, plastic bins could be found throughout the store in random departments filling gaps in products on the shelves. This leads me to believe that there are some shortages, and that they are filling the slots with whatever they can get so to make the store not look as empty. The odd thing here is that our big chain grocery store is now in the shoe business. Shoes all over the place in there. Even hanging on the self checkouts. This is the shit a failing business does. Not good. |
