Mix in some blues and a little jazz, and that's your basic Frank mix. Lyrically you can hear strands of Three Penny Opera and Kurt Weil/Brecht. It's not for everyone, but there's one track that really stands out and it's, "Peaches En Regalia." It stands out because he never did another song that remotely sounded like it. Zappa's tunes are often caustic, bitter, cynical and darkly humorous--but not "Peaches" which manages to be triumphal, even though Frank was being patently kitsch. The eagle never lost so much time, as when he submitted to learn of the crow. |

Shut up and play your guitar is a masterpiece. Each song contains the licks of multiple songs. I was a punk rock kid and I hated the Dead. One night on a rooftop party in SF, we dosed and some dude had bootleg live tape on and bang! I got it. I still never liked them much after that, but at least I understood the spell at some chemical level. The eagle never lost so much time, as when he submitted to learn of the crow. |

That was the point, he made it sound bad like pointless wondering jazz. Its unsettling and unpleasant. That was the point, the message was unsettling and unpleasant. Joe's garage was released in 1979 and contained the song Catholic girls. The song criticized the hypocrisy of the church and rampant sexual deviation inside it. An example line is "Father Riley's a fairy but it don't bother Mary". This was years before all the scandals were popularized about the clergy and their mistreatment of children. |

Kind of suspect that he is the son of a military guy and lived in Laurel Canyon. But he made a few really good albums. His band during the Roxy era is one of the best band ever. |
