Re: Music from another reality: 80s remixes of contemporary songs
I just realized that the remixes in this thread sound a lot like Bjork's music in the 90s.

I knew she was ahead of her time.

I just picked a song at random, and that's a bad example because Bjork is screaming through half of it and hardly singing at all.

Now THAT is a bizarre cadence. That's Mariah Carey-level impossible to match. The 90s were the glory years for bizarre cadences. chuckle

Which part are you disagreeing with?

Take Mariah Carey's song "Emotions" for instance. It's been said she's the only person who can sing it properly.

Bizarre cadence? Of course.

That's incredible. It's not perfect in my view, but it's so close that the difference hardly matters. Ariana Grande was only 19 when that was posted, so she could probably do it better now.

I had to look up what era that song is from. This thread is getting confusing.

Dua Lipa is another one who belongs in the 80s. I think this is another huge improvement over the original.

This was posted in 2017. This stuff is timeless because future generations may not even know which one the original was.

With a bunch of these songs, I prefer the remix. My playlists will be adjusted forever, so it doesn't matter when a particular version was released. scratching

Re: Music from another reality: 80s remixes of contemporary songs
I don't know how to describe it. It is not melodic like most music before the early 90's. Even folk music.

A music expert could probably explain the difference. All I know is I can hear it.
 Quoting: Interferon

I think this is a good example of what you're talking about. This is a song from 1996 that was remixed to be 80s style, but I can hear what you mean. I think it doesn't fit at all because of the cadence.

If you told me that was released in the 80s, I would believe it if I hadn't heard it before.

How's this for temporal perfection?

The original was released in 2002, the 80s remix was released in 2020, and it's supposed to be a 1988 remix.

Re: Music from another reality: 80s remixes of contemporary songs
My admiration for Metallica has grown in this thread. Here they are in 1984 with a classic song that doesn't sound dated or corny at all.

It could have been released yesterday, and it would still sound contemporary. That's an incredible accomplishment.

There's a bunch of these remixes out there. For those who don't know, this is a 90s Metallica song redone as an 80s song.

As long as we're going off-topic, let's include mashups too.

Here's an example of why the concept of this thread is so great.

This is a recent (very bad) Metallica song that becomes amazing in an 80s style.
