Re: Music from another reality: 80s remixes of contemporary songs
Unfortunately, they still have the contemporary chord progressions.

You can put 80's synth into it, but it still has the same weird progressions and bizarre cadence.
 Quoting: Interferon

Bizarre cadence? Which one do you think that applies to?

Here's an 80s song that sounds modern to me: "I am the City" by Abba. I think cadence is more bizarre on this song than any of the remixes posted in this thread. Could you be more specific about what you mean by "bizarre cadence"?

I don't know how to describe it. It is not melodic like most music before the early 90's. Even folk music.

A music expert could probably explain the difference. All I know is I can hear it.
 Quoting: Interferon

It is more rhythmic than melodic. And the chord progressions are recycled and predictable.

The remixed 80s songs are supposed to sound that way in order to give off the nostalgic vibe.

But there are other types of music in this 80s redo genre that sound completely fresh. I think this is a good example.

If you told me this was an 80s song without any other context, I'd buy it.

Take a song that was released after the 80s, and make it sound like it was released during the 80s.

I suppose the same thing could be done with songs released before the 80s, but I've never seen that.

Yeah, alternative music has always sucked. Even in the 80's.

Fortunately, in the 80's hardly anyone played it. But in the 90's it was all you could get on the radio.

Who are your favorite 80s musical artists?

I was just listening to the following 80s song in another thread.

Bizarre cadence? Does it get any more bizarre than David Lee Roth?

Weird progressions? Eddie Van Halen was the king of that.

Van Halen was mainstream rock during most of the eighties with all that going on.

How does it suck? It's classic rock.

Here's another song that I think disproves your argument.

Bananarama's "I Heard A Rumour" was released in 1987, and in terms of progressions and cadence, it sounds more like the the music of recent years to me than the 80s.

This was as mainstream pop as you could get at that time.

That songs proves that most people aren't fair when they think of the 80s sound as being all so similar and cliche.

Because that song holds up really well, and there's hardly any difference between that song and modern music in my opinion.

This remix is more 80s than most real 80s songs.

Ariana Grande is dominating this thread.

I was thinking the rapping in this song isn't 80s style, but it actually is. Check out the second song I'm posting from 1988.
