The tradition is to allow enemy soldiers to be buried on our soil and their graves marked, but not to honor them in any way. This includes the south. I dont think anyone is suggesting exhuming them either.
The problem is not the memorials so much as the attempt to make treason seem honorable by placing statues or obelisks to honor them. This is just wrong, it's no different than putting a statue of Mao Se Dong in central park.

It's not just the slavery issue because the emancipation proclamation didnt even happen until late in the war, but if you knew the truth you would realize over 95% of the whites in the south were dirt poor during the confederacy and many not as well off as slaves. Their descendants have evolved into white supremacists who blame blacks for their being loosers. I actually have a history degree and am a historian of civil war history And 95% of southern whites were not dirt poor. That was about 10% who were poor and lived in backwood shacks and off the land The largest percentage of southern whites at 65% were single-family Farmers without slaves Then you know slavery was gone without war. The cost of owning slaves was never going to last with the industrial age anyway. It was about States rights to self govern and the militias keeping government goons in check on a state and Federal level. The Federal Government did not militias, which is why they totally ignore half the 2nd Amendment to this day. They simply got the States to go along with totalitarian Government by force. Again, we are ALL SLAVES NOW to the City of Washington and its "states, possessions and territories" IE, "this state".
