Call me cynical but you think any being would travel across the Universe, or even survive to the point where your technology is advanced that far to where you could achieve that and not have the understanding of self preservation.

Hell you might be able to evolve spiritually and technology far enough where you don't need to defend yourself, but that only means that either you are so feared no one would dare hurt you, or your weapons are so subtle that they aren't precived as weapons. Still either way being that advanced weapons would be the least of their worries, stupidity and intolerance of others is way more dangerous.
