I was going to post on this. Thank you for your thread.

The cathedral of Nantes was already engulfed in flames on January 28, 1972. The slate roofs and the framework of this Gothic monument built between the 15th and 19th centuries were then gone up in smoke, the fire having been brought under control more than 5 hours after being declared. The cathedral was closed for three years and could not be returned to worship until May 1985.

In 2015, still in Nantes, another Catholic building was hit by a spectacular fire that destroyed three quarters of the roof of the Saint-Donatien-et-Saint-Rogatien basilica, a 19th century church.

The Mrs. Mayor of Nantes said this today's fire has nothing in common with the fire that broke up in 1972.

She said the damage was "concentrated on the great organ" and the fire is now contained by fire fighter squads.

This is not innocent.

Officials said the cathedral's organ was destroyed and its platform could collapse, but added that the damage was not comparable to last year's fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
