I have seen Nikita Krustchev in real life in 1960 when he came to visit General de Gaulle. My father used to take me to all the official receptions during de Gaulle's tenure. My mother would refuse to go to these things so I got to attend every official gig and parties. The same during President Georges Pompidou's tenure. It was rather modest at the time comparing with now.  Cool. You should write a book. I was always interested in DeGaulle...a real time individual with pride for his people. The man was impressive yet extremely modest and humble. I admired him to no end. He would pay all his bills off his own pockets. He would never have the people's money paying for his own needs. The only mistake he made in my own opinion was giving independence to Algeria. We are still paying the price of this to this day.
