Walmart will close stores on Thanksgiving ending Black Friday tradition

It's loss prevention strategy.

anybody remember when the pope(anti) said that it would be the last Christmas? this was a couple years back. may-hap he was off by a few years.

I work there (yeah yeah, I know - but it pays the bills), and yes this is true. I didnt believe it when I first heard it, lol. But its about damn time! Black Friday should be on FRIDAY!! In the past several years I have had to work from 11am to midnight (or later) on Thanksgiving because their Black Friday sale starts at 6pm. Craziness. Have missed so many Thanksgiving dinners with my kids and my family.

Truth be told - I was planning on calling out this year anyway - there is NO WAY they could safely do the Black Friday event, and I was in no way going to be smashed in a crowd of people while having to wear a mask for that many hours. Its hard enough on a normal work day - headaches, too hot, hard time to breathe.

Glad they did the right thing.

Walmart on Tuesday said it planned to keep all its stores closed on Thanksgiving Day.

The closures, affecting both Walmart and Sam's Club stores, mark a huge departure from Walmart's tradition of kicking off Black Friday in-store doorbuster sales on the Thanksgiving holiday, which falls on November 26 this year.

"We know this has been a trying year, and our associates have stepped up. We hope they will enjoy a special Thanksgiving Day at home with their loved ones," John Furner, the president and CEO of Walmart US, said in a statement. "We are certainly thankful to our people for all of their efforts."

This is all on the assumption that we will have a relatively normal Thanksgivings......
