Even in America, at one time what we call a cookie was originally a biscuit, what the Brit old ladies of the time called a bickie. That is how the word cookie got started.

Find an antique sweet biscuit tin and y'all will see I am right. In the South, they even had old African American ladies on some of them, as in many homes, the maid/cook was a kindly old black granny who took care of the family so she was one who probably made sweet biscuits.

Among ranch hands, the guy who ran the chuckwagon was an old single ranch hand who kept working as the "cookie", and NOBODY gave him any "guff" or they didn't eat!
