Grabbing someone's arm, pushing or punching a person or striking a victim with an object all are crimes of battery. You have the right to defend yourself although it is not recommended against a police officer. A police officer striking him in the face multiple times is not equal retaliation. At no time did the man attempt to stike the officer in the face or put the officers life in jeopardy. |

They are, however, allowed to use the minimum amount of force necessary to subdue/arrest in the interest of the officer and public safety. Was this the minimum amount of force given the man's hostile actions (swatting the officer's arm away and standing up aggressively as if he was getting ready to square up)? |
