Trenton NJ isn't exactly a microcosm of most of America or even urban America. It's the worst city in our country, hands down, and 90% black. Does it even have a "nice neighborhood" anymore there? It's second only to Chester PA about 20 miles south, as the blackest poorest city in America, and a couple of other places in that area like most of north Philly, that are unrecoverable ghetto pockets. Many blocks of these places should just be leveled, there is almost nothing to save but a handful of old buildings and churches. I grew up in the philly suburbs and Trenton had been a joke over 50 years. Many of these places are so bleak there isn't a tree or patch of grass for miles of concrete. It's the worst. It specifically states in that article these auxiliary officers will not replace the daily duties/functions of police officers. Most city, county, state police agencies have an auxiliary police force. This is nothing more then that, calm down lol.

Comprised of highly trained, dedicated volunteer Trenton residents, the Trenton Auxiliary Police Force will serve as a vital link between the police and the community.

Under the leadership of new Police Director Sheilah Coley, the initiative aims to provide significant support to the city’s police force without replacing the functions of those full time officers. To prepare for this role, volunteers go through free public safety and security training and ongoing field training. It’s a great opportunity for those looking to eventually pursue a career in public safety or for those who simply want to be a part of a coordinated effort to improve the community.

Auxiliary Police candidates must complete up to 150 hours of Police Academy training, typically comprising of two weeknights and a Saturday training for a period 16 weeks, to officially become Trenton Auxiliary Police Officers. The benefits they provide stem both from their role in emergency response as well as the additional support they can provide during their field training.
