My advice to younger people about money and work
Look here is My advice. Time is the most important thing that We have and its more valuable than money because money is infinite where as Your time has a set determined point when You die. When You accept a job You accept to sell Your limited time for a currency that is infinite and loses 3% to 6% value each year. So if Your going to sell Your time do it for the highest bidder because once spent You can never get that time back. Now take that idea further and realize that when You buy a house that once You pay it off You could have bought two or three houses once the compound interest has been paid. If You buy a car with a loan then You could have bought two cars. Also You need to learn what happiness is and how money doesn't buy happiness but it can only help to achieve happiness. True happiness is finding that special mate, having children, and building a home. Notice home is not the same thing as a house. A home is that sanctuary filled with love where You can seek refuge from this cruel world. Now back to the family the deal is You just can't meet someone and then go out to a field and hang out because You will eventually starve so You need to live. To live You need money and to get money You need to work. Now work in essence is trading Your time AWAY FROM YOUR FAMILY SO SOME RICH ASSHOLE CAN SPEND MORE TIME WITH HIS FAMILY. So in conclusion sell Your time wisely and spend more time with family because in the long run family is important and money is just a tool to be used.

Take My advice to heart and I'm speaking from experience. I spent My youth chasing money while working in the offshore oilfield. So I literally traded DAYS and MONTHS away from My family for a good paycheck. I didn't get to go home at night because I was offshore on a boat making My family money. I worked 9 months out of the year meaning I worked a 2 month on 2 week off schedule for the majority of 24 years meaning I sacrificed everything. I lost My family due to a cheating spouse and believe Me My biggest regret in life is watching 17 years flushed down the toilet knowing My time would have been better off spent at home making love to the woman I loved instead of chasing money. You will come to realize as You get older that money is worthless and in the end love and children are what really matters. The best thing You can do is learn a reasonably paying trade and live a simple life without all those fancy new toys because believe Me those toys become old and then You will realize it wasn't worth it that Your time would have been spent better by having a bonfire party with friends and family or pursuing a hobby in art or music. I know when Your young You don't think about these things but when You get old You will regret all the bad decisions and the most regretful ones are those that hurt Your family.

My advice to some young kid bitching about His low paying job and His asshole of a boss. These are My thoughts and if it helps someone whom is young to not have regrets as He gets older then My so called wisdom helped someone to not make the same mistakes I made.

Definately some good advice in there OP. Although family bring happiness, there is still emptiness without Jesus. So I appreciate your comments on family priorities but ultimately put God first. If I had prayed in my early years I would have avoided many mistakes.

I feel you. I’m lucky because I spent my youth chasing girls. Then I would catch one or two. This helped me later in that our marriage is probably the best thing I’ve done next to having our kids. 25 years and we haven’t had a good fight in years. Everyone else at the time were chasing jobs and grades. So I suck at having a good job but I’m very happy I spent my time the way I did.

My best advice for the young would be to save money and use compound interest of dividend paying stocks. Since time is the best asset one can own, use it. 18-20 year old who just put away $1,000 to $5,000 a year will be millionaires by the time they’re 40. Boring for sure but that’s why grasshoppers steal from the ants.

Work to live, don't live to work.

That said, sometimes you gotta put on big boy shoes and sacrifice some time to feed your family.

I would say the same thing about gaming. I spent way to much time when I was younger playing damn video games and now that I'm in My 40's I realize all that time was utterly wasted. That time would have been better spent learning new life skills or advancing a career that could have made Me more money in the long run. Like My career path if I would have learned more in acoustics I could have pushed My day rate up to 1200 a day and then I could have worked less and spent more time with friends and family with the same amount of yearly pay. Our time is precious and the shame is We never think about it till We get older then all We have is regret. We really need to teach younger people because they just don't get it.

pussy-grabber extraordinaire

tee-hee, asshole. no wonder she left. hope your daughters aren't treated like that,
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78894656

No I talk to My daughter about this shit quite often because I don't want Her to make the same mistakes I made. I've also told Her the most valuable asset is what's between Her legs and the more She uses it the less its worth. Yeah its brutal but its the truth and I also remind Her quite often that the best decision She can make is whom She choses for a mate. You might not realize it but My daughter is My only child and I value her immensely unlike most fathers. Also Pussy Grabber Extraordinaire is a fucking joke if You haven't realized it and no I don't treat women like that and honestly I'm always a perfect gentleman because that's how I was raised in the south by My mother I might add. I actually love women and despite Your opinion I believe sex is better with love and casual sex was never My thing because I didn't like how it made Me feel empty and guilty afterward. Now go troll somewhere else because I don't need Your negativity or hate for that matter.

If you had the choice between working overtime or having a romantic dinner with the wife and sex later I'd say that the best option would be to spend it with Your wife. The overtime will just get spent on useless crap that You will realize wasn't worth it in the long run where as the sex will always be a happy memory.

Bummer you had to go about it the hard way. There are collections of folks last wishes and advice. Number one is “I wish I spent more time with family”. My family wishes I didn’t. I’m always around. I know everything about everyone and all their friends and everything about them. Other families that have both parents working, talk to me to find out what’s going on with their kids too. It’s great you sacrificed a lot. And they know it too. And they know you did it because of that love.

This is why it’s important to start young. You don’t need money or even smarts to grow rich. You need time. That’s it. Hopefully some youngins read this and start by just putting their change into the S&P.

Yes young people should focus on a trade that gives them the maximum money and time with their family. They also need to live a simple life and to never take out loans because it wastes time over all and then they need to learn how to make their money work for them. You know people give Brief a hard time but let Me tell You from My perspective I'm willing to bet We both see eye to eye on this issue and for Me that means He is a decent man.

Re: My advice to younger people about money and work
Man, I can so relate to you and your advice.

You see, I am almost 56 years old, but I have had a career in elevators for 33 years.

My first 3 years in the business I worked out of town alot.

That is basically how I lost my first wife, I was gone making bank , she gets bored and leaves.

Had some fun years after that before the second wife comes along. I am greatful for the kids we had together, but she would spend money like crazy !

We made alot of money together , but I was miserable with this woman. No matter how my things we bought , we could never find true happiness.

That relationship ended badly and I paid the price financially.

That is when I had to learn simply, love myself.

I found the woman of my dreams during that process and never been happier !

Its all about balance.....I'm self employed from home after closing down a business.....Now I'm doing work I enjoy, make my own schedule, and around home all the time for family....my wife is into jewelry making and lampworking glass so we share a workshop.....

For the young, find something you enjoy and you won't really be "working"....if you can find a partner that shares similar interest, you have it made....

Just remember this.....nobody ever said they wished they spent more time working on their deathbed.....

 Quoting: ChefElvis

I started at the age of 24 and when I started I was making 140 dollars a day. This last year My day rate was 750 a day as an offshore client rep representing the oil companies doing site clearance work on shrimp boats. The government forces the oil companies to salvage platforms once production falls to a certain level so they hire a derrick barge to come in and salvage the platform. After they salvage the platform I trawl the area with a shrimp boat on a grid with NS and EW lines which are spaced 80 feet apart. When the grid complete and all garbage has been picked up each square inch of the site has had a net pass over it 4 times. It's an interesting job because it's low stress and the fresh seafood is great and it's kind of fun seeing what You actually catch. The best part is I'm on the ocean with the fresh ocean air and I'm surrounded by dolphins and pelicans which I love. I would say all in all I have a dream job and one day I'll miss the simple shrimpers but the fact remains it helped destroy the only thing that was ever important to Me and that's the point I'm trying to get accross.

Re: My advice to younger people about money and work
Its all about balance.....I'm self employed from home after closing down a business.....Now I'm doing work I enjoy, make my own schedule, and around home all the time for family....my wife is into jewelry making and lampworking glass so we share a workshop.....

For the young, find something you enjoy and you won't really be "working"....if you can find a partner that shares similar interest, you have it made....

Just remember this.....nobody ever said they wished they spent more time working on their deathbed.....

Hahaha You are right about that and when I get there I know I'm going to have a lot of regrets. I tried to be a good father and I always felt it was My duty to put My needs last and to put My families needs first. It never occurred to Me what My family needed was Me and that the money was just a secondary need. We make mistakes though but it's our job to make sure our children don't make the same mistakes.

CHEERS !

I'm happy for You buddy. I've always wanted that special lady too but I always felt that I didn't quite measure up. I hope that God blesses Me in the last portion of My life and gives Me more children so I can at least atone for My mistakes. I only had one life goal that I wanted to complete before I die and that was to be a good father and to make sure My children didn't have a bad childhood like I had. That goal was flushed down the toilet when the EX cheated because I didn't want My children to grow up in a single parent household.

I'm sorry to interject but weren't you bragging about making 22k a month or some shit?

Funny memory of doing site clearance as a hydrographic surveyor. We ran some lines and We picked up a TV. A few more lines and We picked up a lazy boy recliner and I told the captain the next like We will pick up the kitchen sink. We ran the next line and pulled in the nets to check for debris and YES We picked up a sink. We pick up some interesting stuff and at one time We actually picked up a helicopter. I worked with another crew and they actually picked up a car which I can't quite figure out how a car got a hundred miles offshore but it did happen.
