Re: The Internet Peaked in '07
I remember Hell.com had a mystique about it and its stated aim of creating a separate reality. I also recall a metaphysical discussion forum which was password protected. Wish I could remember it's precise url. All this was in 2001. Those were the wild west days of Internet conspiracy forums and message boards. Those were truly Gnostic times riding the after effects of the crest of the 90s conspiracy/ufo wave. In 2001 the sun was already setting.

As someone else on this thread said, sites such as MySpace began the decline of the Internet and Facebook killed it stone dead by giving norms a platform to express their dull contemporary attitudes and bland left/right politics.

I think when 2 girls 1 cup video came out, MySpace still had way more users than Facebook did, wasn’t long after the tables were turned. MySpace wasn’t the first of its kind either, remember Friendster? Even Napster brought the norms in by swarms.

Yeah, I remember hell.com. Lol I forgot about that place.

Like OP said, GLP keeps that old 90s net vibe alive, some may ridicule it, but I think it’s the way it should be

lol this is true

Friendster rofl

Remember Classmates? Trying to find old yearbooks and yearbook pics of old friends? It was even free at the time too. Not sure if it still exists. Facebook quickly dismantled that shit.

What about adultfriendfinder, when everyone thought it was legit 1rof1

Yes, I hate them as well and if I had my way I'd put them on a passenger spaceship with coordinates set for the Sun.

Unfortunately, the net now belongs to the Normies and leftists, at least that’s what they want us all to believe. What a bunch of narcissists

Has gone to shit ever since....

Ahhh, the good ol' days of the great internet

Back before it wasn't as centralized as it is today.

Before it wasn't the aggregated hodgepodge that it is today.

You know you actually had to sit on a desk or table and view actual websites? There wasn't an app for that, you just click and surf.

No one was really saying "google it" because there were a bunch of other reliable options.

Remember the sites like AlbinoBlackSheep, Ebaums, Newgrounds, etc... We had variety (Sure, a lot of it was on shitty Flash or Java, but still), now everything is on YouTube, hell, even porn is consolidated into a single aggregate called pornhub.

The good old days of the massive online raids of Habbo Hotel, et al. - The early Anonymous videos where they actually had substance and were feared, not the fraud, antifa soy type of today - rickrolling coming into prominence. Everything being about the LULZ.

Facebook hadn't yet blown up, yes, we still had MySpace and normies started to slowly come into the net game, but wasn't anything too alarming. Facebook was the thing that made everyone and your grandma (literally) join the foray!

Then guess what? Internet censorship and centralization were being seriously discussed with BS like SOPA and PIPA! It wasn't for the LULZ anymore, the LULZ were being taken away! Memes were now being shared by normies and celebrities; TV shows and MSM suddenly adopted it into their culture. Non-tech-savvy people suddenly gained celebrity status, making a more than comfortable living in a thing they once hated and abhorred

The first iPhone was released that same year, but the smartphone craze didn't really take off until a few years later and with that spawned the dreaded "Social Media" and mass vanity apps that come with it. Around 2012 "social media" exploded worldwide and it became the only thing you heard about, everywhere! tv, radio, just passerby people!

That's why GLP remains a very attractive site! It maintains that old 90s Geocities flavor and look! You can only access it by visiting the site url (no bs app!) and you can comment as a guest (ac) without having to sign up or login with your aggregate facebook/google credentials. Gone are the days where you could leave anonymous comments on blogs, sites, even early youtube allowed guest comments. GLP is still traditional in that way and it works! No shitty ass Disqus or Twitter to participate.

So in the end, the internet Dun Goofed! Consequences Will Never Be the Same! We should have learned from that meme long ago! it was a warning! it's to late to go back now!

The LULZ weren't what they used to be.

Remember this early "Internet Hate Machine" news video?
(They do it for the LULZ! LULZ is a corruption of LOL which stands for Laugh Out Loud! 1rof1)

You guys really think it’s worse now?

There would be no women on the net if it stayed the same.

There would be no Anonymous Girl posting on GLP if things remained as they were.

Re: The Internet Peaked in '07
You know it’s over when no one says “internet” anymore. No one says “going online” or “on the web” anymore.

“I’m gonna go on the Internet” is now a passing phrase

People now say, “let me check my social media”, or more specifically whatever platform they’re using, such as “gonna check my Twitter feed.”

Netflix is an online service but no one acknowledges that it’s an internet service. They’ll use “WiFi” before using the term “internet.”

Good times indeed, and you could easily (and honestly) make real good money back then before google, facebook, etc took over and shut everything down...
Warning : The post above may be pure speculation.
