Re: My bank (NC SECU) just limited my cash withdrawal to $2,000
I saw this early on in spring but maybe its now in the states with spiking infections.....I usually keep a minimum in my checking to pay bills so when the lock downs hit I deposited a lot of cash to make sure I could pay my bills....

Most of the other people had the opposite idea....they wanted cash as in an old timey bank run....they were shocked when the tellers told them they had to order the cash that might take a week for anything over 2K.....

It was funny seeing my deposited cash run thru the counting machine, slid over to the next teller to give the nervous waiting customer.....lol.....

Now the banking is pretty much back to normal in NJ....

My friend in Florida told me last week that her Chase branch was closed. No sign on the door or info. This week they are back open.

Wonder if they ran out of cash.
 Quoting: Mistress C

That's weird, along with the Bank of America closing in Florida. They're even closing drive-through at almost all locations in Florida.
 Quoting: Keilani

I warned you guys weeks ago about Bank of America. They were the first to close in Florida! My branch FINALLY sent me an email stating they were closed after being closed for almost a month! It also says they do not know when they will be open again, but to use an ATM or online banking!

Yeah they'll do that when your balance drops below a certain $amount. Or their on hand cash drops. Trying to prevent a bank run.

Just remember, banks make more money off your money than you do. You agree to their terms in order for them to control your finances and keep them safe. It's pretty much like the wolf guarding the henhouse.

Re: My bank (NC SECU) just limited my cash withdrawal to $2,000
Timely post...

I went to bofa in south bay area today... wanted to top off cash. Withdrew 2k out (I don't have much money).

There must have been 20 people at the inside teller withdrawing very large sums of cash, way more than I was.

I asked the teller and she said she has never seen a run like this. Some even had appointments... said if its a large sum withdrawal you have to "order" it days in advance.

Get cash out while you can.

Exactly!

People act like they’ll be able to pay with gold and silver during SHTF. Balderdash. Maybe, but very unlikely.

Gold and silver are to hold your wealth until things recover, folks. Yes, I know some of you know this already. It’s aimed at those who don’t.

Re: My bank (NC SECU) just limited my cash withdrawal to $2,000
So...this is probably a dumb question, and I will probably get flak for it. Some people think you should leave it in the bank. Some people think you should take it out. I don't really know what to do?? It's not like I have very much in there...but some is better than none. So if people do take their cash out, and have it at home or wherever......and, the currency possibly does change.... would it really be worth nothing???? Do you think you would be able to put it back in the bank? Boy...wouldn't that be something. A ton of unaccounted for cash being put back into the system. I bet they would probably put some kind of tax, or penalty on it. SO...What is the best thing to do?

How many countries have had their currency go to shit due to inflation? Have any of them been able to do daily exchanges with gold or silver? Genuine question. Nothing wrong with trying to stave off inflation, but these barter guys seem like guys who can't let a doom dream die.

I see your point, but most Americans know exactly what 2k is... via payment plans.

They buy huge TVs on payments, fancy cars on payments, entertainment garbage on payments, and other things they don't need. Bread and circus crap.

But yes, most of the population of the world is very, very poor.

Most people don't understand how blessed we are to even have a roof over our head.

I wanted cash (under 5k)
Was told they could only give me 2k because cash is short.
I have no limit on withdrawal.
I’ve taken out 10k+ many times

Why would anybody keep that much money in a bank? You know they changed the law after the last financial collapse. If your bank has financial "issues" they have the right to bail themselves out with depositors money. In other words, they will just keep your cash and their is nothing you can do about it.

How much interest are they paying you? 1/4" of a percent? I keep just enough to pay my bills in a bank. The rest is safely in my hands and in a safe full of silver and gold.

UPDATE: I just came from another branch in the area and was limited to 2500.

It sure does seem like they’ve either had a huge influx of people pulling out their money or they are putting limits in place to stop it from happening as precious metals continue to rise

Don't do that! It's called "structuring" It is against the law. It is an attempt to avoid the IRS FINCen Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.

Your bank works directly with them.

I know, I called out my bank for questioning me as they filled out the form and sent it to the feds.

Not a dumb question! We try to split it about in the middle; half in the bank and half cash-in-hand. We figure that way, we're at least half-whole no matter what happens; Better than all eggs in one basket. We're diversified into other hard assets, too.

One other note: I've seen folks talking about taking out '$900 a day' and shit like that... That's a REALLY bad idea. That's called 'structuring', and will get you investigated by bank regulators, eventually (even if your income is legit). You're much better off just depositing your checks and pulling out the currency you want when you want without playing games. Always get photocopies of the checks you deposit so you can prove all your cash-on-hand and bank deposits are covered by legit payments from your employer/customers. If you get paid in cash, always have duplicate receipts to present to show where it came from.

Life is WAY easier if you just approach with honesty. If bank personnel ask me why I need so much cash, I just tell 'em the truth... I like to transact in cash, and I gamble a lot, which is a cash game. I spend hundreds a month on bowling tournament entry fees, side action on the lanes, and horse races. Sometimes I win, too! rockon
