No... not an irony. It is a contradiction. These insurrectionists have such a dichotomous mentality. "Kill all the cops and ol' whitey!!" is their mantra. Yet whenever the cops and/or "ol' whitey" comes to protect themselves and/or each other suddenly it is "please save us, cops!" and/or "Do your fucking jobs, cops, and save us!".

I figure the residents of Springfield, Oregon will unlock their firearms now and keep an eye out for any potential insurrectionists coming their way. The cops may abandon the entire area when the actual Americans begin to fire upon the insurrectionists.
