I think this is tactic... start mandating that MORE anti-Corona gear is needed, then back off... makes people relived to just have to wear masks... which they should be furious about and DEMAND a hard stop date for.

Same thing they do with gas prices... Gas "should" cost about 50¢ a gallon. Raise to price to $5 a gallon, back it off, then people are relieved to only be paying $3 a gallon... see how that works?
