"WASHINGTON -- The Trump administration opposes a Democratic proposal to extend a $600 per week federal unemployment benefit approved in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia said Tuesday.

The $600 payment, which is in addition to normal unemployment benefits, "was the right thing to do,'' Scalia said, but is no longer needed as the economy begins to recover."

Via The Hill’s Alexander Bolton, Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) introduced legislation to extend the additional unemployment benefits amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The proposal: “The Schumer-Wyden proposal would extend the $600 increase in weekly unemployment insurance (UI) benefits past July 31 until a time when a state’s three-month average total unemployment rate falls below 11 percent.
