OP, do you realize that most people who are put on ventilators are very sick with respiratory compromise and that many of those who die do so because they are extremely ill and often have chronic health conditions?

If you're a 62 yo smoker with COPD who gets COVID and ends up on a vent, there's a good chance you aren't comin' off of it. Moreover, there's a good chance if the same patient ends up on vent without COVID, they' ain' gonna make it.

My understanding was that hospitals chose to use ventilators not for patient health but to prevent aerolization to healthcare workers...they had other less invasive, drastic measures they could have taken to address their oxygen issues...and did not use them.
