Over the last 40 years, when a Democrat has held the Presidency, the US economy improved. When Republicans held office, the economy went down the toilet and the debt went up.

Trump has surpassed George W. Bush in economic idiocy.
 Quoting: CaylinSoup

And that’s because the Fed lowered rates when a Democrat is in office.

If you think it’s for any other reason then you are a fool.

this is what happens in a situation where companies work on a just in time delivery profit model.

And then there is a pandemic. And buyers stop placing orders.
Then a president who uses China, the main supplier of... everything, as a floormat.

All of a sudden there is demand but everyone forgot to place orders on time. fearing tariffs, uncertainty.

Im telling you it destroys trade. When trade stops it destroys lives. And this is just the beginning.

If the USA does not start to re open asap and this trade war nonsense stops, then it is game over for the US economy.

People do not seem to realise just how bad things are right now. And how bad it will get if we do not end this insanity asap.

We have experienced no delays in materials and have heard of no shortages either currently happening or happening in the future.

Re: Supply chain issues from an insider.
I'll chime in with my intel.

I'm a buyer for a smallish store in NY state. I talk to and buy from say 20 main vendors.

These people are telling me that they themselves have been hoarding materials..ie glass for picture frames, clay for mugs etc.

There are also supply issues with products made in Mexico! Mexico is still in rough shape and a LOT of non-china stuff is made there.

My vendors are also being cleaned out by huge purchases from large retailers like target and walmart who themselves are trying to back stock inventory.

One lady told me its like the run on TP we saw except with finished goods...and its the box stores buying it all up.

Many vendors are cancelling gift show appearances and closing showrooms permanently. Just read that e-mail last week.

Also wharehouses can only have say 1 or 2 picker/packers to fill orders due to "social distancing" guidelines. That alone is slowing down shipping times to retailers drastically.

EVERYBODY is spooked and is generally going day by day. The gist is that the retail engine is running on fumes.

I'm a forum regular I'm just signed out to stay anon.

I work on forklifts so I'm in a lot of warehouses.

Some food warehouses are getting low , others are jammed.

The economic shutdown has slowed the sales of some items and created shortaged of other items.

Theres no rhyme or reason to it.

Like there's a shortage of Gatorade and a massive oversupply of potato chips.

The shutdown created these huge distortions in supply and demand, changed peoples eating habits, and inventory levels are all over the place.

BTW Forklifts and the material handling industry are leading indicators, we always know what economy will be in 6 months.

We are the first thing industry cuts back on when their revenue drops, and the first thing they invest in when they are looking to expand.

We are swamped.

Sales , rentals and service numbers are way up.

It will be a fairly intense and rapid recovery.

Employed by Major Home Improvement retailer. Been informed that we are going to have way worse shortages than we already have or had anticipated.

The company is scrambling to conduct sweeping remodels of the "floor" to help offset the look of empty shelves and drop zones.

We received reporting that showed us our "get healthy" dates on stock that we ran out of and they came and went and we are still out of important items and material.

In fact over the next couple months you will be seeing major remodels in store. You'll know it when you see it. It's to maintain planogram integrity while keeping the stores "looking full" and investors happy.

This is only the beginning so it will most assuredly impact food and other essential items.

Get bulked out.

Wal-Mart is remodeling stores because they are going to try to transition shoppers to the online delivery and pick-up services. They are going to use those Supercenters as local warehouses for the online orders. This is comparable to how Amazon is building all of these fulfillment centers in the suburbs. I have noticed empty stock for both online Wal-Mart and Amazon, and - especially on Amazon - these items are always Chinese shit.

Interesting post...my local Wal-Mart is getting a remodel...new floors, etc. ...things are on clearance in nearly every area of the store...when I asked why, I was told there is more stuff coming ...we will see. Can you elaborate on what exactly is short in your store ?? What supplies in particular ? Examples ??
 Quoting: Halfbeeedgal 70049148

Same here. This Walmart where I live redid the whole refrigerated section so it looks a bit more crowded. The meat section now carries more things like big boxes of corndogs and what passes as frozen burritos.....fish sticks that are more stick than fish....you get the drift.

I have been ordering heavy supplies like big containers of water and lots of cat litter from a local store so they can carry it up the stairs in 117 degree heat. I needed some drain cleaner. ALL drain cleaners were 'maybe there, maybe not', and there was a limit of two. I guess everybody staying at home all day is hard on the drains. Whatever. I keep buying. Stuff is going to get hard to find again, so I never stopped buying since the first time. Still waiting on my large order of MRE's. It's only been 2 months and they still aren't ready to ship it.

Exactly. Covid brought the global supply chain to a screeching halt. It shouldn't be shocking that we're now dealing a lack of goods that were largely supplied by China.

Many didn't realize just how much of what we depend on for food, entertainment, technology, industry and medicine is supplied by China.

This is what happens when you base nearly your entire supply chain in another country and then have a worldwide disaster. As bad as it's been, we're honestly lucky that the crisis we have to deal with is a pandemic and not an all-out war.

They had none. Salesman said they hadn't received a lumber shipment in weeks.

Had to go to Home Depot. Notice I said had to.
