this is what happens in a situation where companies work on a just in time delivery profit model.

And then there is a pandemic. And buyers stop placing orders.
Then a president who uses China, the main supplier of... everything, as a floormat.

All of a sudden there is demand but everyone forgot to place orders on time. fearing tariffs, uncertainty.

Im telling you it destroys trade. When trade stops it destroys lives. And this is just the beginning.

If the USA does not start to re open asap and this trade war nonsense stops, then it is game over for the US economy.

People do not seem to realise just how bad things are right now. And how bad it will get if we do not end this insanity asap.

They'd rather just troll.

Yep. It's typical demonrat response...yell, stomp and point fingers. They hate any change that doesn't put them as King Shit over others. Their sole aim is absolute power and degradation of anything moral or just.
 Quoting: ~Jazz~

I think you folks misinterpreted Halfbeeedgal's point that it's, besides certain politicians, the apathy of way too many people to stand up to those politicians & hold them accountable(preferably peacefully & lawfully at the ballot box)........I don't see where that's "whining" or "being a Democrat". I think it's more like you guys want to lecture us & can't deal with independent thinkers that may disagree(maybe you should listen).

Employed by Major Home Improvement retailer. Been informed that we are going to have way worse shortages than we already have or had anticipated.

The company is scrambling to conduct sweeping remodels of the "floor" to help offset the look of empty shelves and drop zones.

We received reporting that showed us our "get healthy" dates on stock that we ran out of and they came and went and we are still out of important items and material.

In fact over the next couple months you will be seeing major remodels in store. You'll know it when you see it. It's to maintain planogram integrity while keeping the stores "looking full" and investors happy.

This is only the beginning so it will most assuredly impact food and other essential items.

Get bulked out.

The best way to judge how the supply chain is doing without the info being spun for an agenda, is to look at the shipping container statistics for the Port of LA, the largest US port in terms of containers moved through it, and the port of entry for most of our imports from China.

[link to www.portoflosangeles.org (secure)]

Overall, incoming shipping containers are down 17.11% in 2020 compared to 2019. A noticeable drop in my opinion, but not a "everybody run to the stores and buy what you can because it is all about to disappear" number.

I think we are in the "need to be smart and careful" stage, not the "worry or panic" stage.

We have experienced no delays in materials and have heard of no shortages either currently happening or happening in the future.

Well, if the democratic greeny weenies hadn't put the lumber industry out of business because of 101 different "environmental issues" beginning with the Spotted Owls, this country would still have thriving lumber mills. But because of this mockery of "environmental improvement" all we now have is over grown forests ripe for burning and no lumber mills anymore to make finished dimension lumber! Oregon used to have hundreds of small lumber mills cranking out 2x4's etc - now you'd be hard pressed to find one in the state. Same in Washington State. Both are hardcore democratic. Same in the southern States as well I bet. Consequently, less finished lumber available. Combine that will all the home building going on in red states to accommodate all the blue state deserters, and you even have less lumber available. Connect the dots people!

We're in this predicament because demonrats insisted we suck the China tit for everything we needed.
 Quoting: ~Jazz~

Exactly. Covid brought the global supply chain to a screeching halt. It shouldn't be shocking that we're now dealing a lack of goods that were largely supplied by China.

Many didn't realize just how much of what we depend on for food, entertainment, technology, industry and medicine is supplied by China.

This is what happens when you base nearly your entire supply chain in another country and then have a worldwide disaster. As bad as it's been, we're honestly lucky that the crisis we have to deal with is a pandemic and not an all-out war.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71569647

Most of this problem is not because of the Chinese.
All the Chinese do and did is supplying you with cheap products you need every day. MUCH cheaper than anything made in the USA.

The problem is Trump. He started a tradewar with China. And the rest of the world more or less.

Again, this is only the beginning. Once China and other countries start their payback on the USA is when the pain will really begin. You didnt really believe that all this anti China bullshit was without consequences ? Because there will be consequences.

The Chinese outnumber you by 4:1 and have 10 IQ point advantage. Ask Elon Musk about China.

Trump is picking an enemy he cannot defeat and whom, when provoked, will crush the USA. Dont forget Korea, Vietnam. You lost to china there too.

This is because store management and policy fails them because they can't place orders or they can't find another vendor. Either that or their credit has dried up, because it's the only explanation I have for that.

My lumber yard is providing me with all this stuff without issues. They don't know wtf is with Lowe's or Home Depot not ordering from them.

My thoughts, also Miss C. No one truly knows what goes on between our countries' two leaders.

Both leaders have more than fair share of stupid asses trying everything in the world to take what on the surface as we call a Cold War and make it go hot.

Think the MIC is just made up of good ol' USA boys-n-girls?

Nope, not by a long shot.

There is a better way to make $$$$ than off the blood of our world's militaries. But anything other than 'war is a racket' would be a buzz kill for loosh lovers.

This is a "just in time" inventory system failure. It's been going on for several years and just exacerbated by scums who deliberately initiated unnecessary buying frenzies.

You can find articles going back 4 or 5 years of people complaining of empty shelves because of this new system.

You'd have to be mentally retarded not to see that this propaganda event would weigh heavily on an already flimsy inventory system.

Yeah.

Talked to a vender in the Wal Mart aisle where foil and plastic ziplock bags are. He goes all over the east coast. One of those conversations where you both realize in a few minutes that the other is an aware doomer prepper.

Anyway, he waved his arm around the shelves and said that by later in the fall it is going to be hell and to get everything I can now. This was imperishable items, but it'll be the same for food, which almost always is in packaging.

Wish I had the cash for a boatload more of stuff, but glad for what we do have.

Curiosity was getting to me, I reached out to a bud who is a warehouse supervisor for the Mart in Arkansas. His response to my inquiry of a shortage, "Negative, we are working 50 plus hours a week, some times 11 hours a day, trailer count 250 plus everyday."

Maybe, it's different elsewhere in the U.S.
