I agree with you and continue to be amazed at how many sports franchises, retailers, restaurants, actors, musicians, and consumer product companies decide to virtue signal, literally putting half their addressable customer base at risk. I've talked about this with friends who are marketing experts and they claim that many of them have research showing they will benefit from taking positions on social issues, but I can't see how this makes sense. Many family, friends and I have stopped using some products/watching certain actors/buying from retailers that we have used for MANY years because of their idiotic need to virtue signal. If they'd just shut up, provide a quality service/product/etc. and sell it to EVERYONE, wouldn't they do so much better financially? |
