Anonymous Coward User ID: 10185017 United States 08/04/2020 08:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wait, what happened to the September asteroid? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 42059804 Or is this separate from that. Do we get 2 in 30 days? September isn't about a "Meteor", it is about potential Meteor Storms. Potentially starting in September and increasing in intensity and danger through the following spring. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79201889 Canada 08/04/2020 08:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would have a difficult time believing OP's story except for one detail. The most discussed detail. The payphone. Yes, payphones are still around, albeit few and far between, but how many of us use them? I think the last one I saw was at least a decade ago. I've seen hundreds of elaborate doom tales over the years; some are idiotic, some are fantastic. But to include, especially in 2020, a payphone? Whether or not the shit hits the fan this week, I do believe, at least, the story. Quoting: pyrestarter this is what sells the pitch, it's classic x-files, the lone gunmen are on it. Fandango we ride! |

The story line on GLP is that we're to expect an ASTEROID DEBRIS FIELD WITH tens of thousands of asteroids the size of NFL football stadiums and a few dozen at least the size of Manhattan TO HIT the earth. Good luck!!!!! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79201889 Canada 08/04/2020 08:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If its real, they know the entry to the atmosphere within a few kilometers and what minute it will happen. Orbital mechanics is PRECISE. Quoting: darth Why not? 2020 has given us a pandemic, riots, attempted overthrow of the government, and baboons with chainsaws. Asteroid short term doom is expected. What should we do? If I lived in that area, I would at least go on vacation tomorrow...far away. Otherwise, PREP! I have taken this lull in the pandemic as an opportunity to purchase more of the stuff on my list. This is the biggest flaw in OP's scenario - the doom window is three days but it is very specific to the North American west coast. Orbital mechanics are very precise but there can be uncertainty about a recently discovered rock. That uncertainty would extend to where it would strike. opsec creates a window of time for situation management, the narrowed down time and area is classified and the data realtime. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77376498 United States 08/04/2020 08:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Info coming from ex-GF stationed at Travis AFB (1st Lt. 0-2 ISR) Quoting: Bigdick_Ron Just got off the phone with her, came directly here to lay it out for you guys. She contacted me via text only with a numerical code for urgent matters that we used during the days of pagers (not 911) along with a number to call...a payphone of all things. The news: Thursday, 8/5 - Friday 8/6: Incoming Asteroid with U.S. Coastal Range Impact expected...affecting a range anywhere from Mid-Southern Alaska, to the San Francisco Bay Area. It's measured at nearly 230 ft wide, and highly probable that it breaks apart upon entry causing fragmenting ballistics with a debris field over 1,000 miles long. Their intel suggests that fallout could reach inland as far as Colorado, depending on what part of the Pacific it enters the atmosphere (and if it breaks apart). This is what they are wargaming for, as it is the most likely scenario...but the worst case scenario its that it doesn't break apart, and that there's a direct impact...where one of two things happen: 1) Ocean Impact - expect tsunami of 80-100ft high along a 700 mile radius of coastline, and 30-50 ft high on entire indirect west coast shoreline. Computer simulations state this as preferable of the two scenarios as a lot of the high coast cliffs and bluffs can withstand this type of tsunami with minimal civilian risk. 2) Land Impact - Complete devestation - possible earthquake trigger, toxic dust could, fires, power grid down (PG&E), National Monument destruction, Forest devastation, Tremendous loss of life, etc. I asked why they are hoping for a break apart scenario over a direct hit to the ocean and she said because if it breaks apart, the debris field will be so wide and long...that most of the fragments would most likely be the size of a bowling ball up to a large home television, and would land mostly in unpopulated high desert regions. She said...get this...it's trajectory is set to brush dangerously close with - if not impact and take out all together - the ISS...hence the recent departure and homecoming of our two astronauts. This news and her contact came as a complete surprise to me, as we only stay in contact via social media, and VERY sparsely at that. I asked why she contacted me, and she said because she knew I'd do the right thing and get the word out. Other than a standard issue tsunami warning after the fact, there are no warnings being given to the public about this. "If not impact and take out all together - the ISS...hence the recent departure and homecoming of our two astronauts. " Except there are still 3 astronauts aboard. O.P.... And why wouldn't" they" warn the public a couple of days out? it would take days to evacuate coastal areas? |

(707) 447-4702 Correction: Payphones are NOT extinct. Came by one in NE Oklahoma fully functional...and yes, it had not been wiped down in some time. “My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me. That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave.” -Stonewall Jackson "The Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to a person who is not." - Charles Spurgeon “I apprehend no danger to our country from a foreign foe . . . Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing. Make them intelligent, and they will be vigilant; give them the means of detecting the wrong, and they will apply the remedy.” “If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.” -Daniel Webster |

So...here we are: Quoting: Bigdick_Ron WTF...making things even more weird now...and taking the bait that I am a liar (which I am not)...I called back to the number she gave me that I posted and yeah...I get the same annoying "number disconnect or no longer a valid number" recording. Look, that's the number she had me call, and when I asked her briefly why she didn't just call me directly or have me call her cell, she said she thought it was best if I called that number. I asked her, "What, did you have me call a payphone or something", and she simply responded "Yes". I wasn't going to interrogate her about it, it's the first contact I've had with her that wasn't a social media like or comment in over 6 years. [link to www.quora.com (secure)] "Years ago all of them accepted incoming calls. Many small businesses used a coin telephone as their business number. Often the public phone was prominently placed in the public area, with an extension (without a dial) near the businessperson’s area (near the cash register, for example). In the latter part of the twentieth century, many phone companies disabled incoming service to outdoor phones, so as to discourage them being used for criminal purposes. Today those few remaining pay phones are no longer owned by the phone company, but by private companies and business owners. Most, with the exception of the type of phone owned by the business itself, will not accept incoming calls. If you want to call one that accepts incoming calls, just dial the number as usual." |
