At the local library here in mid-Missouri where I live, books and DVDs that are checked out are quarantined for two weeks after you turn them in.

A big bummer is that the returned items are not marked as "returned" for at least two weeks after you turn them in. (The staff can't touch those dirty books and DVDs until they've sat in quarantine.) So, the library's automated checkout system indicates that your items are overdue, and you owe overdue fines for at least two weeks.

Another bummer is that they've removed the furniture (for customers), magazines, and newspapers. Can't have the customers loitering. Get your books and get out. And don't breathe towards us as you do so.

Please think a moment before you spew nonsense. I work in a library. I am white, hetero, proud wife and mother, patriot and nationalist, not to mention an antifemininst. There are many of us working at my local library who are very conservative and know what the hell is going on. Don't paint everyone with a broad brush and by so doing betray your magnanimous ignorance. Maybe at your local library they are as you describe, if you live in a Democrat run shithole, but then I guess if that is the case, I couldn't expect you to know better.

Oh and while I am not in board with this Covid nonsense, but have to go along g with it for the sake of my job, quarantining the books doesn't mean getting rid of them. We just waiting 24 hours to check them in. Don't have such knee jerk reactions to everything.

These days it works to get books on kindle. No physical storage problem.. but can't be accessed if net it down.

It can only last a few hours on cardboard so likely the same for a book. However it can last for days on a metal surface. One would think by now most of the population has one of the mutations by now.

Only the hot flames of the memory hole can cure that kind of covid.
