Oh man!! My mother is a librarian working at our local public library. I wonder how much this will adversely affect her and her coworkers. They already clean everything they can on a very regular basis. This is the entire reason why our local public library has not had a single Children's Program nor Event happen this year!! My mom's boss had to spend virtually the entire library's budget on cleaning products including face masks. Man... if her library has to close because of this nonsense I hope she gets paid every pay day like before.

Its called using an infared Wand or lights, and they would be perfectly cleansed.

I once did an inner library loan from University of Washington. I was expecting a PDF, photo copy, or microfilm copy. I got a real book that survived the Black Plague.

It scared the hell out of me using a book worth more that my car. I always used cotton gloves and a huge plastic bag to protect it during use. Made photos of the pages and sent it back to U Dub quickly.

The old books were leather bound vellum so you also had to worry about anthrax.

The doctor said that if we thought we were exposed, just sit quietly and call for help. Anthrax is easily treated if caught in time. Only pneumonic anthrax is really dangerous.

So goofy! In our library. You can go in, touch books, look at them, re-shelf them or self checkout. But if you are returning them, they have to go into the night book depository and have to be quarantined for 4 days. How stupid. I guess the books in a library can give you covid, but in book stores, they cannot!

I can only assume that library patrons are dropping like flies.

Soon everyone who can read will be dead.

There are circumstances where being able to grep dead trees is a feature, not just because there's a test. That said, any scholar worth their salt can find what they need within mere minutes of picking up a well designed text. That's what good books were intended for. More... philosophical texts would need the student to dig for what is being presented. But that's what discourse was intended for.

Yeah but effective measures would protect us for other diseases too, reducing certain income streams.
