Abortions had precisely NOTHING to do with it. China's population grew from ~600 million at the time of revolution to ~1.4 BILLION today, i.e. 800 million MORE mouths to feed! The one child policy was obviously not very effective, and this is illustrated by more specific statistics showing that the fertility rate had already collapsed BEFORE one-child.

As for "lowered population", see up thread. They did not lower population in absolute terms. They lowered it relative to what it would have been, by slowing growth rate.

God I WISH. If U.S. had been under highly-intelligent and competent CCP management back then, there would be a chance for the country to survive. As it stands we are on a fast track to oblivion, while China will soar.

LET it leave. They have their own resources, financial and otherwise, and healthy trade with numerous partners across Eurasia, and vast modern infrastructure to support still more wealth-creation (e.g. 15 THOUSAND MILES of high-speed rail in just 20 years!), and strong currency, and vast gold reserves, and a new gold-backed crypto-currency (yuan), and more, much more. Oh, I did not mention a fabulously well-educated population with far more advanced degree STEM people than anywhere else -- as needed for all the high tech development and opportunities that are coming on like a flood, next couple decades. And on and on.

You're just not getting what is happening here. It is a sea change. They are already the world leader in many important ways (e.g. more technology patents, and peer-reviewed scientific papers, than all other countries combined), and the gains are coming on all fronts. They are the future, U.S./West is history.

The idea that China is going to "implode" is just laughably out of touch with reality -- albeit this IS a common point of view in the (laughably out of touch with reality) U.S./West.

Yeah China might be making progress while we are declining but our military can still kick the shit out of theirs! They still have many years to go for them to surpass that
