Masks and distancing may not go away, even with vaccine
Vaccine will probably be ~70% effective
Estimated 70% will get vaccine, 30% will not
So, 49% (70% x 70%) will get immunity, 51% remain vulnerable
Herd immunity may not be reached
Still need masks and distancing

Except those people didnt die on that day or any one day.
The tally is collected from several day reports.
Debate in UK now is whether to release a daily death number or just a weekly number
FL curve is heading down, slowly, pos rate about 17% down from 19-20% and this is the pattern being observed in other locations. Implies that when infection rate reaches @20% HIT kicks in...meaning another 40-50% of the population has T cell immunity from prior virus exposures or immunizations

Speaking of UK...flu deaths exceed covid deaths now for 7 weeks

This must be backlog catch up or...Cali ain't "dropping like a rock":

Riverside County +1,313
Orange County +1,051
San Bernardino +1,275

This is far more than I've seen from any of these counties in many weeks, even considering weekend lag.

It looks like they fixed the backlog and are staggering the release, can't find properly backdated counts yet. Will be hard to see what is actually happening for a bit.

-Edit- Hospitalized Currently and ICU occupancy are still moving down, so that's a good sign.

Figured as much, thanks all. LA county still has yet to fix their backlog issue so that will explode one day soon I'm sure. But good to know the signs are still looking better overall.

Texas doesn't look that great... again. This time with the current hospitalizations that looks to be stabalizing in addition to the other bad indicators. Some chart visuals at the links.

(@cadamsKXAN)

Here are the latest COVID-19 numbers in Texas, as of August 11:

- 500,620 cases reported to @TexasDSHS (+9,803 over yesterday)
- 8,710 deaths (+220)
- 7,216 current hospitalizations (-88)
- estimated 358,312 recovered (+8,479)
- estimated 133,598 active cases (+1,104)

(@cadamsKXAN)

Texas has surpassed 500,000 total confirmed cases of COVID-19.

9,803 new cases were reported today.
The 7-day average is now 7,063 cases per day.

(@cadamsKXAN)

COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped by 88 today.

There are currently 7,216 Texans hospitalized because of COVID-19. That's the lowest total since July 1.

Texas is averaging 29,145 tests per day (lowest since June 19).

California’s electronic lab reporting problem has been solved, according to the state website. As such, some portion of the 12,500 new cases reported today are backlogs from prior days. We expect this to continue for the next day or two.

Just to emphasize the point above. Over the past 7 days Texas reported 200k PCR tests, down from a peak of 400k+ over 7 days.

Georgia (little over 1/3rd the pop) reported 230k PCR tests in the same period, a high for them.

Florida (little over 2/3th the pop) reported 260k PCR tests despite the hurricane shutting down test sites last week.

Az (About 1/4th the pop) reported 65k tests, down from a peak of 93k.

CA (About 4/3rds the pop) reported 880k tests, which it has been doing pretty stably.

It's far from the worst when it comes to testing, but testing 50% less is quite a bit.

Logistics of getting the tests out to those in the rural areas could be an issue? Not good when the infections are becoming less in the urban areas and more in the rural, as I think you said before Dutchy.

CASES & TESTING (2/3)

The 8,183 daily new resident cases is the second highest reported in August

However, that it came from a moderately high number of tests (81K), and with the highest positivity (by both measures) since late July, is the more alarming statistic
