Yeah, need to keep an eye on test positivity rate. That's making significant gains, disproportionately so compared to the cases... which usually is a tell tale sign that there is an issue with the testing, and there are more infections out there that haven't been picked up.

Ah yes, those density factors. Dharavi slum in Mumbai is just over 2.1 square kilometers and has a population of about a million. So.... that is about 718,000 per square mile. New Yorks density, which seemed pretty busy (times square) is about 1/30 as dense at about 27,000 people per square mile. Social distancing in a slum is a complete joke. They were practically climbing over each other when I was there. The public toilets were extremely filthy. Mahim creek is the local river that is widely used for urination and defecation causing the spread of contagious diseases. Fun times. We stayed at the Oberoi hotel, Mumbai and it was like living on a different planet (refrigerated cutlery, two waiters per person, live music at breakfast, air conditioned hotel cars --a real rarity back then in India).

I don’t disagree. But that goes to soooooo many more issues.

It means case counts and deaths are way worse.

Unfortunately....this keeps going around the world.... because even if one or two countries block one or two other countries..... we are still all connected via other vectors.

Test positivity rate could be a better guide into what's going on

The only real way to measure this now is from eyes on the ground.

It makes sense now why India announced today they are making the vaccine available to everyone instead of prioritizing certain groups... because the Indian variant is making everyone ill...

This Indian variant definitely has P1(Brazil) vibes to it... increased severity for the younger folks.
