8/8/20 Covid-19 charts for Tulsa Co & state of OK from OK Dept of Health data. I look at daily new cases & 7 day rolling averages to identify a change in trend. But looking at the cumulative charts, we are NOT flattening the curves in Oklahoma at all so far. /1

Yep. Until that positivity % starts going down, like it did in the case of Arizona, Texas is in a bad place.

Can you confirm that molecular tests are being reported as 4012657? (Molecular tests in terms of Texas is PCR tests)

[link to covidtracking.com (secure)] is confirming what I am seeing. Texas is reporting 6959 new cases and 12125 new PCR tests (Only PCR tests can lead to confirmed cases in Texas). That puts their daily positive rate at 57,39%.

I'm sure this is just another reporting error for Texas...

Yeah, not sure what's going on there. Covidtracking.com and Texas Health Department dashboard's total molecular test number does match at 4,012,657, so no problem there.

But... Texas' Health Department is reporting ~37,800 new molecular tests and you can see that in the daily test chart provided, whereas I presume covidtracking reached the new daily molecular tests # by subtracting the previous day's total test # from the current day's test #. And actually, from what I can see, none of covidtracking.com's daily test # match up with what the Texas Health Department has reported.

Pupils pose NO RISK of spreading Covid, study reveals

Government Sage adviser Professor Russell Viner outlined the forthcoming Public Health England study

The PHE study, which will be published later this year, tested more than 20,000 pupils and 100 teachers

It is hoped to allay the concerns of wary teacher unions, which thwarted ministers' initial attempts to reopen

The Prime Minister has declared resuming classes a 'national priority' and is planning an advertising blitz

Not a single confirmed case of a school pupil passing on coronavirus to their teacher exists anywhere in the world, says a leading expert

Prof Mark Woolhouse said all evidence points to children being poor spreaders

A modelling forecast published last week predicted a tsunami of new cases

But the professor said a second study in same journal had largely been ignored

Just 53% of the UK population say they will either certainly or very likely get a coronavirus vaccine, as experts warn that 'damaging' misperceptions are putting lives at risk.

The damning figures come from a joint study by King's College London and Ipsos Mori, based on 2,237 interviews with UK residents aged 16-75.

Judge the numbers by the numbers. Texas reported doing 264878 PCR test in the past week for 50998 cases. The week prior they did 441737 PCR tests for 54639 cases.

Express and interpret any way you want if it was not that hospitalized currently is dropping I would be hard pressed to conclude things are getting better.

The incubation period for Covid-19 might be longer than first thought, according to a new study involving people from Wuhan, the central China city where the coronavirus was first detected.

While the common wisdom among health authorities is that the average incubation period is about five days, rising to a maximum of about two weeks, researchers from the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and Peking University, say the mean value could be higher.

In their study, which used probability modelling and clinical data of more than 1,000 Covid-19 patients who left Wuhan before the city went into lockdown on January 23, the researchers found the mean incubation time was 8.29 days, while the median value was 7.76 days.

8/9/2020: Florida reported 77 additional COVID-19 deaths and 6,229 new cases. Sundays are normally low.

Another one of those days? The FL DoH @HealthyFla is now >2 hours late in updating their dashboard deaths by date of death. Some other dashboard sections have been updated.

(@HarpWizard)

I want to believe that Florida’s decline in daily new cases is due to decreasing viral spread

But test positivity remains high, and the lockstep pattern of new cases and new tests can’t be ignored

Cases and tests rose in tandem, peaked 2 days apart, and declined in tandem

GREAT news out of NY.

NYS record low positive rate : 0.78% w/ near record testing levels.

NYC positive rate of 0.86% is 2nd lowest on record.

Nassau/Suffolk record low positive rates.

THIS IS HARD WORK! Kudos to NYers for doing it well.

From July. Might be worth posting again.

Florida might be minimizing the depth of its COVID-19 problem by underreporting its rate of positive tests, experts say.

The method used to calculate the “positivity rate” — a critical measure of the pandemic’s progression — puts more emphasis on negative tests, skewing the results in that direction.

A person who tests positive is counted only once, but negative tests can be counted repeatedly if the same person got more than one test.

A vaccine for the coronavirus could be ready as soon as the end of this year or the beginning of next year, according to EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides.

“Although making predictions is risky at this point, we have good indications that the first vaccine will be available toward the end of this year or beginning of next year,” Kyriakides told German business newspaper Handelsblatt in an interview published Sunday.
