RECORD low 7-day rolling average (0.93%) for NYS and record low for the Bronx (0.8%).

This requires leadership AND a populace who are willing to do the hard work. Keep it up, NY!

Scientists urge routine Covid testing when English schools reopen

Exclusive: experts say staff and pupils should be screened for virus, possibly by group testing

Scientists have called for routine Covid testing of teachers and pupils alongside a robust test-and-trace system, amid a debate over how to safely reopen schools in England.

On Sunday, the children’s commissioner for England, Anne Longfield, said teachers and pupils should have weekly tests, but Nick Gibb, the schools minister, ruled out the idea, saying instead that those who are symptomatic should be tested.

Now researchers behind a report from Delve, a multidisciplinary group convened by the Royal Society, have said routine testing will be necessary when the majority of children return to school.

Dr Ines Hassan, a researcher in the global health governance programme at the University of Edinburgh and a lead author of the report, said the group were recommending the widespread and regular screening of all staff in schools, including those who are asymptomatic.

Hundreds of people in the UK are forming online communities to discuss myriad long-term symptoms, from headaches and digestion issues to nerve damage and searing lung pain.

Yeah I remember you saying you thought could be having the long term symptoms/effects. Do you feel things have gradually improved for you or nah?

It comes in waves it seems. Every couple weeks I have nasty three day hangover feelings and the other days it's more of a nuisance. But it's always there. Neurologist suggested we up our B2 and potassium game. Doing magnesium at night and trying lions mane mushroom powder to help open the neural pathways. Hasn't been long enough to really see if it's having a good effect but, let's hope! Currently 5 months post-recovery.
 Quoting: Vegz

I never had a test. But for 4 days i was fighting something. Nose running like a river and so bloody tired.

Now every 2-3 weeks for the past 5 months i get so tired. I used to work 15h days doing a phiscial job, now i can just about manage 8h at a reduced pace.

Coronavirus testing in Texas plummets as schools prepare to reopen

Texas' low number of tests and large percentage of positive results suggest inadequacies in the state's public health surveillance effort at a time when school reopenings are certain to increase viral spread, health experts said.

A mob of anti-mask protesters stunned grocery shoppers after storming a supermarket yelling 'You guys need to resist'.

Members of group StandUp X walked into the Morrison's store in Peckham, south London, to lecture people on wearing face coverings during the pandemic.

As shoppers harmlessly filling up their baskets looked on, the protesters walked through shouting that people should not submit to coronavirus rules.

And they told people buying food: 'Your masks are so bad for you.'

Georgia COVID-19 update (8/10)

Cases: 219,025 (2,429, 1.1%)
Deaths: 4,229 (30, 0.7%), 1.9% of confirmed cases
Hospitalizations: 20,676 (48, 0.4%), 9% of confirmed cases
Positive %: 8.3%
(daily change)

(@jc_bradbury)

Mondays have become a down days, so 30 deaths are quite a lot. 2,400 new cases and 48 new hospitalizations are typical down numbers. Current hospitalizations holding though. Positive % at 8.3%, so it's starting to fall: 7-day average almost down to 10%.

(@jc_bradbury)

Deaths continue up as expected, but hospitalizations falling off a little more than expected. Current hospitalizations remain elevated to a greater degree while we're having a lot of deaths and capacity remains tight. Not sure what to make of all this.

The same happened in Arizona, as cases and Hospitalized currently went down Hospitalized Cumulative shot through the roof even before the large 5k addition last week. I can't explain it but a lot of them were back dated, probably something about taking care of patients over doing paperwork.

A rare heart condition that could be linked with the coronavirus is fueling concern among Power 5 conference administrators about the viability of college sports this fall.

Myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle, has been found in at least five Big Ten Conference athletes and among several other athletes in other conferences, according to two sources with knowledge of athletes' medical care.

The condition is usually caused by a viral infection, including those that cause the common cold, H1N1 influenza or mononucleosis. Left undiagnosed and untreated, it can cause heart damage and sudden cardiac arrest, which can be fatal. It is a rare condition, but the COVID-19 virus has been linked with myocarditis with a higher frequency than other viruses, based on limited studies and anecdotal evidence since the start of the pandemic.

I was curious so math-ed.

$1.5 trillion was pumped into the stock market.

That would cover roughly 2,142 weeks of this.
Divide that between 50 states that would cover almost 43 weeks.

Of course those numbers are not the totals, but thought it was an interesting comparison

The Louisiana Dept. of Health reported 24 more coronavirus-related deaths and one fewer hospitalization in its daily noon update Monday. But the data on new cases and the number of test results returned were incomplete because of a possible reporting error.

"Technical staff are investigating," the LDH said on its website.
