I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill on the original comment about restricting international travel if you want my honest opinion. I don't see why they can't restrict international travel more than they have done up till now, at least for the time being - and you don't have to include exports and imports in that. It's not about left/right, or focusing all criticism towards this particular government or another particular government. I just think more could be done in many countries in some aspects towards the pandemic, but the will is not there unfortunately.

You are being sloppy. Who else was responsible for following those binders in 2020? Who was in charge of making of following the plans??? Since the virus is as rampant as it is, closing borders now is futile. You would need to close up for at minimum, 6 months. Minimum! for all cases of domestic transmission to significantly slow, not to even mentioning halting the introduction of new cases from international travel. That is not going to happen at this point. There was only one window where halting everything would have mattered and that was early in 2020. We blew past that opportunity a long time ago. I have yet to see your plans laid out for how this country, any country, reorganizes itself to function in a complete bubble. I just hear noise.

I guess you assume ships and trucking don't involve people crossing border lines and don't spread Covid? Thousands of truck travel across the Canada, Mexico and the US. thousands of people on the move every day moving goods. If you are going to close everything, you close everything. You don't just focus on tourists. China understood that and set up barricades around Wuhan. That is just not going to happen here. Do you really think the fact that it can't or won't happen here is an intentional move to spread the virus? Like people are actually sitting around some conference table and saying, "We cannot stop trucking because the virus then won't spread like we want it to?" that is intent. There is a difference between that kind of intent and unintended consequences of keeping some semblance of an economy going. Where is the balance? Lock the entire country down and then watch everything else fall apart in a domino effect? Great, we stopped the virus, but now we are living back in the dark ages.

And politics only entered because to do the lockdown such as was needed could not have happened without economic support of all citizens. And what trivial economic support we were offered in this country (US) was massively political. Half the country didn't want it and called it socialism. That makes it political. You can't just lock everything down without planning for economic support. It's not logical. Not one of you has told me what your plan would look like at this point, one that would work for a nation such as ours, with our state control and federal control. What is your vision to restrict more traffic in a way that would actually bring about measurable results (significantly lowered cases as a result versus local lockdowns lowering cases) while keeping the economy going?

The comment was about international travel, and yes the tourists and business travellers on planes across continents to be specific. They involve a higher risk of importing and spreading new variants compared to say the folks involved in the transport of goods from a border country.

Your thinking seems to be if we can't do everything exactly like China then let's just do nothing. I disagree with that. There could still be benefits from having more restrictions in international travel and it wouldn't have to mean the economy crashes.
