It's important to take note of but this has been the case for a while. It was actually useful in mapping the extent of the UK VOC spread because one of the bigger tests was only partially reactive to the new variant. I'll skip the details but it bypassed the genome sequencing step largely. Useless for the individual cases and proper pos/neg was maintained but great for spread information.

If a men tests positive for pregnancy hormones it's likely he's not pregnant and if a woman in labor tests negative for pregnancy hormones it's likely she's pregnant. A test will tell you exactly what it's made to tell, proper interpretation of the results given context is where the real value lies though.

One final note, the FDA guidance has not been updated since "Content current as of: 03/30/2021" so why a MD would consider this new information is beyond me.

A vaccine which focuses on more than just the spike protein?

As the battle with Covid-19 rages around the world, a small French biotech has a possible solution for the long-term war against the virus and the rapidly spreading mutations.

The company, Valneva SE, has a vaccine that could be more variant-proof, giving it an edge over other shots

With all the other Covid-19 vaccines in the region focused on the virus’s spike protein, the shot could protect against variants that might compromise others

Kate Bingham, former head of the U.K.’s Vaccine Taskforce, says that if the shot is successful it will probably be used as a winter booster for older adults.

“Having that broader antigenic real estate from a whole virus vaccine really matters,” she said. “Viruses mutate. So by having a broader immune response, which you get with a whole vaccine, you can potentially provide that ongoing protection.”

The novel coronavirus’ spike protein plays additional key role in illness. Salk researchers and collaborators show how the protein damages cells, confirming COVID-19 as a primarily vascular disease.

LA JOLLA—Scientists have known for a while that SARS-CoV-2’s distinctive “spike” proteins help the virus infect its host by latching on to healthy cells. Now, a major new study shows that they also play a key role in the disease itself.

The paper, published on April 30, 2021, in Circulation Research, also shows conclusively that COVID-19 is a vascular disease, demonstrating exactly how the SARS-CoV-2 virus damages and attacks the vascular system on a cellular level. The findings help explain COVID-19’s wide variety of seemingly unconnected complications, and could open the door for new research into more effective therapies.

“A lot of people think of it as a respiratory disease, but it’s really a vascular disease,” says Assistant Research Professor Uri Manor, who is co-senior author of the study. “That could explain why some people have strokes, and why some people have issues in other parts of the body. The commonality between them is that they all have vascular underpinnings.”

Morning everyone.

Interesting discussions ongoing...

In terms of anecdotes they are certainly useful data points but need to be taken as that. They may as time passes become a trend in which case we can we spotted trends before they became mainstream.

I have one of my own. I offhandedly said to Mrs lightning yesterday that the uk government and media have told us COVID is over. It was tongue in cheek.. she looked me sideways and said ‘no, two parents tested positive last week’ Mrs lightning works in education.

I chuckled and said, ‘Indian were they’? ‘Yes’ she said. But they haven’t been to India.

But, friends or family members recently returned from Delhi!? Who knows. Probably!!

Watch this space. The UK is testing very heavily with laterals now so have a chance of keeping at least a lid on it.

We all know the MSM will skew and manipulate to set a narrative. I spend a lot of time on a specific hashtag. There are very real very desperate people pleading for oxygen, plasma and remdesivir. The situation, in my opinion, is very real
 Quoting: lightning1977

This is definitely very real. I have well-off friends in India. They were pleading online for an oxygen generator that they could pick up themselves. We offered to ship one to them, but they said do not bother it would get stolen before they received it.

So, basically, if you walk into any poorly ventilated commercial building, especially those with recirculating HVAC systems, even if people are a long way from you, you can get infected. That is why we have not been inside any commercial building in over a year.

Not sure posted before or not.....Covid is now officially airborne like measles.

[link to www.indiatimes.com (secure)]

Evidence of long-range transmissions
In another piece of evidence, they've stated examples of long-range transmission of SARS CoV-2, where individuals from adjacent rooms who haven’t spoken to or come in contact with each other have taken place and have been documented in quarantine hotels.

COVID-19 has stayed infectious in the air for three hours
Researchers have also stated that SARS CoV-2 has been detected in the air in lab experiments and it has managed to stay infectious in the air for up to 3 hours. They have also rejected the argument where researchers have claimed that SARS CoV-2 wasn’t cultivated from the air, arguing that measles and TB (tuberculosis) which are airborne diseases also haven’t been cultivated from room air.

Presence of SARS CoV-2 In areas where only aerosols can reach
Researchers claim how SARS CoV-2 was found to be present in air filters and building ducts of hospitals of COVID-19 patients -- areas where only aerosols can reach. In another study, they show how infected caged animals who were connected to separately caged uninfected animals via an air duct caused the transmission of SARS CoV-2 -- another transmission with only aerosols as the logical explanation.

As Singapore is almost zero local transmission for quite sometimes until this round of mass infections, more evidence for airborne transmission in Singapore.

Note: For full protection of airborne transmission, only N99 or P100 can protect you.
